For folks that have never been on an Olibollentocht tour this is an excuse for a mass velomobile outing normally just after Christmas in NL. You also get to eat a Oliebollen which is like a big doughnut. This year it is in Uterecht which according to reports has the best cycling tracks anywhere. To look behind and see miles of colourful velomobiles stretched out is a sight to behold. Recommended:

At the end of this year, we hope to welcome many velomobilists in Utrecht. Ten years after the previous Oliebollentocht in this region we're going to repeat it with a new route. Just for fun I have the route from 2009. Then we had a route of more than 57 kilometers, now the route will probably be a little longer - to the final details we are still working.

Ten years later not only another route but also another Utrecht. In the past decade a lot of renovations have been carried out in Utrecht: many new bicycle paths and many other major cycling infrastructure: the Daphne Schippersbrug, a new bicycle parking, a railway track converted into a bicycle path and many more minor and major changes. The route of the Oliebollentocht will show it to you. What remains is the old town and especially the Domtoren (Cathedral Tower).

Although the tower is now under construction for a restoration, it will also this time be present for a photo opportunity. Also outside the city Utrecht there are plenty of interesting points to visit at this tour, including the runway of the former military airfield Soesterberg. Pretty soon after that we have a break with coffee/tea and applepie in Hotel-Restaurant Old-London. Here you can those who need

more energy, order an additional lunch package. The entire route, we will avoid highways and canals in order to make it a nice tour.

Where in 2009 we came up with about two hundred flat tires. With 117 participants (with a few cases of five punctures per rider) I hope that this time the ratio is the other way around, or rather a lot less flat tires with more participants.

For everyone who does not live nearby, we recommend a overnight accommodation: the Stayokay on the Neude. Yes, that's in the centre of Utrecht, but this youth hostel has plenty of beds. We are still in communication with the municipality to also provide a safe depository for your velomobiles within walking distance of this location. There are Several municipal bicycle parking facilities near the Neude, but it is not yet clear whether velomobiles can find a safe place there before and after the Oliebollentocht.

The start is at 'Anafora' in the Máximapark in Utrecht-Vleuten, on the west side of Utrecht. Of course there will be the traditional Oliebollen afterwards, but we also offer the possibility to book a meal via the registration form. The registration for the Oliebollentocht on ligfiets.net will be opened after the Autumn meeting of the NVHPV.

To keep the route safe and relaxing ride, we want to drive in small groups within the center of Utrecht. For this we need a large number of front-runners, preferably drivers with experience driving on GPS and with driving experience in Utrecht or any other busy area.

The organisation of the Oliebollentocht can be reached via obt2019@kegge13.nl

Always on the 28th of Dec, which is a no no for me as its the Mrs' birthday, damned inconsiderate and lacking foresight on her parents behalf!
