All

This is a call out  to members who may be interested, it is not intended to be a debate of the why's and wherefore's of doing it - I'm not stupid I do know that the two proposals are not possibly showing us in our best light.

I am not available for these dates and would not have personally got involved but here is the ask.

Hank from GCN will be filming in Northern England Friday 25th March to Sunday 27th March and is looking to do some riding / filming at Bamford Clough on uprights and recumbents - https://blog.veloviewer.com/bamford-clough-the-steepest-road-in-the-uk-world/

He would then also like to find a long steep descent where he can see what maximum speed he can achieve in a recumbent (particularly looking for a velomobile).

Anybody who is interested in taking over the GCN contact and doing this film please contact me via PM.

Barney

Kudos to anyone willing to lend their velomobile to an inexperienced rider trying to hit Vmax downhill!

I've hit 70 mph on the fabric faired Wasp in the Darlington Time Trial on the first downhill. Scary though.
So good luck to him.

I've read that the Quattrovelo is the most stable to do a downhill in and I've read that 100 mph is possible coming off a mountain.

Cursory use of an FWSE suggests they've surfaced Bamford Clough, wif tarmac an' evryfink. Spoilsports! It used to feature prominently on the Edinburgh Trial.

I think it's a little presumptuous for GCN to expect anyone to lend their velomobile for that sort of endeavour.  Either they do so on a "you break it, you buy it" agreement, or they buy one outright for the channel.

The A68 south from Soutra summit to the Carfraemill roundabout is three miles of glass smooth tarmac that drops 600 feet.  There's a slightly better chance of a temporary closure there than the alternative of the M9 from Glenfarg to Bridge of Earn, a descent about the same length and height.

If I was proposing to Vmax a velomobile I certainly wouldn’t choose a tree-lined goat track, but rather somewhere with a wide road, good sight lines and little chance of wandering wildlife.
