Good morning all,

I'm fairly new to the BHPC and have competed in the last two events of the 2019 calendar on my ICE Sprint trike. I have found the club atmosphere relaxed and welcoming and have thoroughly enjoyed competing, chatting between races and learning about this amazing sport.

What became clear to me during my first meeting on a warm Gravesend saturday, was that I'd not raced for years (time trials in the late 60's/early 70's)… and that the elevated HR BPM had not been sustained at that level for some time - (I'm 65 years old btw). I noticed several guys were wearing HR bands and there were a variety of GPS computers fitted to recumbents… Garmins were particularly in evidence…

I was wondering if any of you had any recommendations and advice as to which computer has worked best for you… and why?… and if you had a chance would you have got your chosen brand again? (reliability etc)...

Having clicked around the web and checked out reviews for various options including Garmin and Wahoo… I'm getting rather overwhelmed with the spec and alleged capabilities of what's on offer.

I guess I'm after something that gives me the HRM with the option of
giving an audio/LED alert for sustained optimum level exceeded… maybe cadence might be handy?… speeds etc also… and saving it to Strava to muse over later would be handy…

As regards mapping for touring/road work… most of what I've seen looks blocky and unintuitive to look at and just pausing and looking at a lovely paper OS map might be still the thing that helps me to stay on track and in touch with my surroundings!

Lastly, I'm also after a better helmet camera than my current cheap Crosstour unit… as well as monitoring the cut and thrust of my regular commute, something I could wear during racing to record the fun and that perhaps can show the speed and HR in frame… what are people out there using I wonder?

I'd very much appreciate your opinions… even if you spot this post later in the autumn/winter… getting the right unit is important to me!

Thanks in anticipation

Melvyn
