A lot of people forget that we could travel before "freedom of movement" and for the UK because we are not part of Shengen it makes no difference anyway, I can't see any reason why ferries would be delayed and certainly not cancelled! We are way off topic here Big smile

Maybe not, but Brittany Ferries did. They made cancellations back in February in order to rearrange their timetable to free up some capacity for freight:

Doesn't seem that far off-topic. It's a reason Brits might not want to commit to the World Championships... *shrug*

Have to get to the ferry as well and the police are setting up to turn the roads in the area in a damm great car park. I live close enough to be affected.

Essential supplies will get priority on the ferries as well, the Government has already stated that. Remember 40% of UK goods have to be imported. We are not and never have been in modern times a self sufficient country.

It's a very real concern. I've already asked my MP what the situation will be and he can't even tell me if my driving licence will be valid in the EU in July!!

Don't worry, we'll keep you in France... what's not to like about this proposition anyway?

You can be sure that your driving license will be valid this summer. If you decide (or are forced!) to stay more than 6 months you have to obtain a french one, but that's the case for all non-french drivers I believe!

We may have a Egyptian team this year: if they can make it, so should you ;-)

Well I'm up for that. I've been trying to persuade my family to move to France or Germany or Holland ever since the Referendum and they are up for it except for disrupting the children's education. They all moved in with us some years ago and we could live in a Chateau with the sale of our UK house.LOL

The previous owner of my faired bike sold it to me just before he moved to Germany.

All the best.

I agree, France and just about every other western European country is better than the UK, although I fear our current political turmoil and politicians are painting a very grim picture of "us" from anywhere on the mainland.

As a few folk know I will undertaking a long ride in France this year, and am not in the slightest bit concerned, all travel and accommodation booked. I don't worry about things that I cannot influence, I plan around them.

Contingency planning is good for possible FREIGHT hold-ups!

What's this got to do with cycling/travelling to France, the ferries will still run, cars and bikes will still be on them the lorries may have to wait, freight and non-freight are separate and always have been, unless the Government intends to use uber taxis as a means to move priority freight passenger spaces will not be affected.

I don't use Brittany ferries anyway, they charge motorcycle rates for velomobiles, even if I was taking my car I would boycott them for that reason alone.

Reading the blurb from Brittany Ferries it actually says there will be more sailings, using existing ferry stock, so as freight for various reasons on a lot of ships cannot use car decks there will be more choice of sailings, and no envisaged delays.

Yep - way too much scaremongering going on in my humble opinion.

I'm way past caring whether we end up in or out, I just wish they would get off the pot, sort it out and get back to working on things that really do have an impact on us every day and seem to have been neglected for the last 3 years...

Well whenever I've travelled to Dover or Folkstone it's been in the company of loads of lorries even on a Sunday. Operation Stack was bad enough and more than doubled the journey time to Dover and Operation Yellowhammer is expected to be fare worse. Using Manston Airport as a lorry park is madness because the road just is not suitable for thousands of lorries. Lorries are expected to back up to the M25 even using Manston.

Just because drivers have to wait does not mean that they stop needing to use the toilet. So it'll  be carrier bags of poo thrown in the hedges and fields like it was during Operation Stack!

There seem some weird idea in Government that people will obey the law and not take advantage of the lack of customs inspections and break the law by smuggling! Maybe I can pay for my trip with a little careful planning.

The biggest worry is medication supplies as things like insulin cannot be stockpiled. We are already having trouble getting toilet paper as people stock pile goods. We'll be able to make up the food shortfall from the farm and with hunting, but not everyone is in that situation and we all-ready take several people to the food bank in Rye who are not in the situation to have money left after paying their rent thanks to Universal Credit.

I'll be using the Shuttle anyway and the cost is £214 return. Or maybe I should get a one way ticket?

Roy
