See below for a PROVISIONAL list of dates and venues for next year.  Date and/or venue for any of the below (except Jersey) may yet change, so don't go booking your rail tickets just yet.  If you're having to book your holidays so as not to miss races, though,  this list will be more useful than nothing.  I'll post updates as and when details are formally confirmed, though the finalised list won't be complete until at least 15th November, because Hillingdon isn't processing bookings until then.  Until the finalised list is out, don't blame me if you make arrangements around a date or venue that subsequently changes.  Details in italics identify those least firmly-established.

Date                 Venue

April 26             Castle Combe
May 10              Hillingdon
May 23 or 24     Jersey (Keith Davis)
June 13             Fowlmead I
June 14             Fowlmead II
July 11              Salt Ayre, Lancaster
July 12              Preston Sports Arena
July 26              Darley Moor
August 9           Quibell Park, Scunthorpe
August 22         Curborough
September 13    Hillingdon
October 4          Redbridge (Hog Hill) + AGM

To forestall a few likely queries:
  • Bentwaters became an unviable proposition after Ipswich CC decided that they didn't want to play with us.  On top of that, Bentwaters won't confirm a date until they have finalised dates for such as the recording of Dog Borstal, so you'd have been waiting much longer than this if I'd tried to include it.
  • Some might baulk at the inclusion of Jersey, which I've made as a means of promoting that event.  (Conversely, I know some people are very keen to go.)  I'd simply point out that under the principle of championship points being accrued over two-thirds of events, rounded up, this means the 2009 season is on an 8-from-12 basis rather that the 8-from-11 that it would have been if I'd left out Jersey.  Details such as the format of racing are yet to be confirmed.  There should be more than one HPV race in a weekend of cycle racing, but this will count as one BHPC event, only.
  • The idea of the two-day Fowlmead meeting is to have different styles of racing on different circuits, whilst making one of the less accessible venues (for anyone further north or west than London) more worth the effort of getting to.
  • I did consider whether to leave out Darley Moor, after this year's mucking us about.  I thought it worth giving it another chance.
  • It's less than ideal that Lancaster/Preston immediately follows Cyclevision/Worlds 2009.  First choice for this weekend was early August, but that would have meant a long delay in publishing the calendar: Preston currently won't confirm any dates for August because they expect to be hosting a big f++tb+ll tournament.
  • I've managed to avoid clashes with BPCC, other than 10th May.  That's the only date  that makes sense, though as 26th April is the only date I could get for Castle Combe, Jersey is already fixed for Spring Bank Holiday, and I didn't want to schedule a race for the Sunday of the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Looks good to me!

Might actually get to some (Castle Combe and Curborough spring to mind)

The only other clash is the "New Milton Pedal Car Grand Prix" on July 12th but this race is not run by the BFCPR, is not part of the championship, and we have no say over it's date so no blame attached to either party there.

BPCC calendar was OK'd by the AGM today and looks like this:

Sunday, April 5th - Shrewsbury 100 mile

Saturday, May 9th - Welsh 10 hour [day / night race] (Port Talbot)

June 27th - 28th - Shenington 24 hour (near Banbury)

Sunday, July 19th - Silverstone Sprints (1hr + 2 hrs + 3hrs)

Saturday, September 5th - Blackbushe Sprints (1hr + 2 hrs + 3hrs)

Sunday, September 6th - Blackbushe 5 hour

Saturday, September 26th - Curborough Sprints (1hr + 2 hrs + 3hrs) [day / night race]

All excellent news I think.

Luv, Jes x

I didn't consider it, because I've never heard of it.

No date has been published for 2009 but the previous 2 events have been on the Mayday bank holiday Monday which in 2009 will be the 4/5/09 thus won't interfere with other events.

I'd really like to race on a town centre circuit, looks very exciting.
There will possibly only be time for one race, of about 20-30 mins so maybe have this as a non-points race?

and you can! On sunday 24th of May there will be a 1.2 mile town centre circuit in St Helier, Jersey. A web page with more information about this, and the other events for HPVs that weekend will be available shortly . . .

I don't always have time to read every post in every thread (I guess I didn't read that thread because I knew I wasn't going to the Bentwaters try-out).  Nobody had raised the possibility with me, in my capacity as CompSec.

You're right that one slot of 20-30 mins would be insufficient for a Championship event, anyway.  It does sound like fun.  Purely personally, I doubt that I'll be travelling from Yorkshire to Sussex for 20 mins racing, but that doesn't stop anyone else playing, should we be invited.

Whoever volunteers as race organisator of a given meeting gets the privilege of a certain degree of discretion over the race formats, but everyone on the track at the same time, for a two-hour race would, indeed, be the usual format - and my expectation - for Castle Combe.

I'm also hoping that one of the Fowlmead days will be a longer race than the more usual formula of 45mins +whatever.
