Having tested the shiny new 15m recumbent-resistant coax cable obtained by Andrew S (unsurprisingly, it works fine), I had a go at this: It turns out that Decathlon products use Impinj-compatible tags, and I was detecting a) a tub of electrolyte tablets and b) an unopened packet of insoles, depending on which way the antenna was pointing.

(And the tags are locked so you can't re-write them to spell rude words in hexadecimal and/or sneak an RFID reader into the shop and put lots of shiny things through the till as pot noodles.)
