Looking to replace the front tyre on my Ratracer for the first time in years, I find that my beloved Schwalbe Ones are no longer available in 23-406 size, having followed the current fad for fatter tyres at lower pressure (now 28-406).

Does anyone have any recommendations for an 'old-skool' narrow 406 tyre, tubed and (preferably) folding. Yes, I really am that ludditish (eh? Ed).

I have the same problem. 28 is too wide for my M5. I managed to get Schwalbe Ultremo ZX in 23mm from ebay, but they become more difficult to get as well ...

Claims to be 23-406 but the URL doesn't agree

Interesting - this now says 28-406 in the description. Yesterday it said 23-406 so I ordered one, due to be delivered tomorrow when we shall see if it is 23-406 or not. Even if not at least I'll have something for Darley Moor that isn't worn through to the casing, and I'll have bought some time to search for something better.

I saw that too but I have had two very bad experiences with Tredz so I wasn't about to go for third time lucky.

I am not sure it is statistically significant but the last time I ordered some tyres getting out of production (700x20) from tredz one and an half year ago. They did send them as expected.

FWIW, the 28-406 Pro Ones are pleasingly fast-rolling, if a complete bastard to fit.  Not much use if you don't have room for a 28mm tyre, though.

At some point I'll experiment with trying to run them tubeless.  I gave up trying to make a 28-559 Pro One seat properly on any of the 559 wheels I have to hand, my last hope is that the tube is the problem.

I've just had a look in the garage 'cause I thought I had an NOS Stelvio 23-406 but it's 451 sorry.

Will 28 not fit or do you just prefer the thinner size? FWIW I'm running 32mm slicks at 80-90psi on my gravel bike and they're faster than the old 28's (which in turn were faster then the 25's they replaced).

Not unexpectedly the tyre which arrived from Draft turned out to be 28-406, not 23-406 as advertised. 28mm looks like it will be a tight fit on the Ratty's monoblade but I'll give it a go as there's little other choice.

I've read all the arguments for faster, fatter tyres but the old-school roadie on my back just won't have any of it Confused.
