As I start planning in earnest (with the help of my trusty multi championship-winning assistant) for the 2012 season, please let me have any feedback on the 2011 events, either by PM or by posting here. A few of my thoughts to date:

I believe that our brand new treasurer has contacts at a kart track in Wales that may well be suitable.... It looked good when he suggested it for a pedal car race a while back and was going to be cheap...

...that I've been to, anyway. Before gNick comes along and points it out, there's a track at Hetton (co. Durham, I think) that I should be looking at. And there's also a new one at Middlesborough, which it's rumoured might not be worth the trip.

I think we should keep Scunthorpe. It's the fastest track and if rumours of Howard getting in a Beany are true maybe there could be a challenge to club records!. Also it is very fair to have a velodrome race in the north and one in the south for those that don't wish to travel great distances.
Hogg Hill also is a great track one of my favourite races this year around the bottom circuit and great facilities too. We have the funds so let's keep them both I say. If we want to save money we could think about combining hire with the pedal cars and sharing a venue for the day. Never seen a pedal car race so would be good to watch.

What's the general opinion on having two velodrome events? Some people find them dull, but others (possibly less keen on entertaining corners) like them.

They are good for comparing your speed to the previous season or finding out your best speed on your latest machine. They also give the streamliners a chance to really stretch their legs. Could be cut down to one a year if they are alternated between Reading and Scunthorpe. Once the timing system is running smoothly and we are more confident/experienced maybe we could liven the races up as Graham suggested a few years back by having a few random sprint laps during the race for a percentage of the points. |

He would be going some to beat Pat Kinch's former World record (46.9 miles?). I wouldn't mind seeing Andrew have a go at Mike's part-faired record though...

Adrian
I'd support proposals along your line of thinking and would wish to comment on the following points:-
Hog Hill - the hill climb for one lap followed by lower circuit racing was good this year but it did mean that we didn't get the benefit of the expensive facilities up at the top, I'd not be that upset if we didn't go, and we did have a very low turnout so maybe give it a miss for a year??? and then go back, I know the hill is a killer but its the same for all of us.
Velodromes - like you I prefer Scunthorpe, but understand economics and geography which tend to show a preference for Reading (even if its not properly banked), I agree that we need at least one velodrome but think that maybe enough given the tight calendar and other more interesting facilities we have on offer. What about Wolverhampton, last time we were there the facilities seemed fine, its properly banked and reasonably central in terms of geography.
Twisty circuits - these are the thing that keep some of the slower members, including myself, happy and I can heartily recommend and agree with the re-use of Stourport. There was a suggestion elsewhere that pedal cars had booked Curborough for a Saturday and we might be able to book the adjacent Sunday for a joint weekend - this sounded like an excellent plan, it might be twisty but Slash seemed to manage it in either direction without too much drama a couple of years ago.
Other locations - as you know I tested Middlesborough and whilst it was fine, excellent track surface, not wonderful layout, with new decent facilities but I see no reason to recommend other than its proximity to those of us who live up North. Graham S-T did post details of a track in Rhyll anybody else tried it out yet??? and I note that British Cycling are now holding events at Wombwell Karting circuit - now that does look streamliner unfriendly. Perhaps we could start a thread for "other circuits" to try and locate new venues.
Jersey - well even if there's no points on offer that town centre crit race makes it worth the effort hopefully I'll be allowed out to play again if it's on.
Most members that I talk to fully appreciate the difficulty of what you're trying to do so hopefully we'll all support you by turning out again next year whatever the calendar is.
Thanks
Barney

The best place to watch a pedal car race from is definitely inside a pedal car...
Give it a go... The only problem is usually removing the grin afterwards...
I agree it's a great idea but I think you would need to get in quick - There is usually a Sprint Car event the day after the pedal car race so we would need to grab it before they do...
![]() One more thought on Velodromes.... Welwyn seemed pretty good to me when I was playing around over there last year... One a year is plenty for me but I'd like to have another go on the indoor one at Newport if it ever becomes available...
