What we really need is a volunteer to organise at Hillingdon otherwise the season may be a bit late getting started!!

I believe the problem we have with no volunteers is that if you have never done it before it looks like a daunting task (to me it does anyway), not knowing about getting access, sorting money, registering people on the system, running the timing system, using a manual timing system as back up, video camera set up, closing up, what to do with the cash, what to do with the equipment for the next race. Never mind the fact that having to get people to actually race requires a certain kind of LOUD person.
Not to mention the added pressures of actually wanting to race as well, possibly in/on an untested machine that one may actually want to do a few laps in to get a feel for it! wasn't there a mention at the AGM or somewhere of setting up a mentoring system? if so did anything come of it? unless that happens i think it will be down to the usual few!

I think you're probably right - I've given up on racing when I help out with organising... I've tried doing both in the past and ended up not enjoying either very much or doing either very well...
I was hoping to make an exception for WC2012 but that's looking pretty unlikely.
For the first race of the year to go ahead in 3 weeks time we need:
A person or persons willing to organise.
Somebody to get the timing kit etc to the track.
A qualified person or persons willing to offer First Aid cover...
I'll be 200 miles away playing with the pedal car folks so I've got a great excuse...

Just checked and my first aid certificate expires on 27 April, so I will be able to be first aider for Hillingdon. I have the renewal course on 2 and 3 April so I will be OK for another 2 years, assuming I pass.

I'll post later with details on volunteers (not many!) so far, and links to what is involved.
I've found that an organisating team of two or more, preferably made up of people running in different heats, allows the organisators to compete reasonably comfortably. I'd urge anyone who hasn't had a go to volunteer at least as an assistant, which is probably the best way to learn the ropes.

I have to hold my hand up here and say that i did volunteer to assist at Scunthorpe last year, but as we were late gaining entry and i needed to try my new drive train (failed miserably) i never got to help with anything apart from take some gear to the next race!
And as Scunthorpe looks like it will be my first race this year after a 7/8 month lay off from cycling, and i will be trying a new fairing i don't think i can offer to help this year, not there anyway!
