I'm hoping to attend Castle Coombe as my first event. I'm happy to come whatever the format but I can imagine one, 2 hour race may be a bit daunting for those that are racing for fun. Two, 1 hour races provides the chance for me to enter both or, as I'd like to do, bring along a roadie mate to try out my 'bent while I ride my brompton in the second race. Whatever the format, thank you to the organizers for making the effort to put it on.

One other point - I'm not sure what age a junior starts at, but I would have problems getting my 12 year old to come along for one, 2 hour race but he'd probably ride one 1 hour race. Is a 2 hour race going to be too long an event for juniors?

I would not expect the juniors to race for two hours - not healthy, apart from anything else. I would be quite happy to stick to one hour for them as we have before, starting with the main field and finishing separately.
RWA - unfortunately, Castle Combe is traditionally the long race of the year, so is kinda stuck to a two (Icould have made it three !) hour format. However, we are flexible about riders - if, for example, you are not particularly worried about championship points (which we couldn't count), we might be able to accomodate both of you riding in the two hour race, swapping in the middle. I've raced at Castle Combe unfit and with a new bike intending to pull out after an hour and done so - as long as we know, that should be ok. I would ask that your roadie friend makes sure that he can ride the bike on the track with everyone else safely - from prior experience, getting passed at 40mph+ can be quite disconcerting ! Alternatively, bike swapping could be possible if, again, not too worried about points - a road bike would not confer any advantage over a recumbent at Castle Combe (quite the opposite), so if you happened to move to a lesser bike (!) through the event, that might be possible. Thoughts, Kevin ?

As a newbie, and hardly done any kind of cycling over the past year, i find the 2hr event a bit daunting, especially early in the season - vision of cramp, dehydration, bonking, and vomiting! However if any or indeed all of the above to manifest I will chuck the towel in
Having trained at Castle Combe on my upright for many years, and interestingly always going anti-clockwise I can vouch for the fact that there are interesting bits, even at the lowly speeds I used attain. So you fast chaps would have real fun!
I'm actually looking forward to it, not just the chance to get on a track, but to see the exotica, and meet people with whom i have an affinity, if only (for now) through the forum.
I'm not sure how many trikes there will be, loads i hope!!

Proposed timetable sounds good to me, Rob. I'll excuse myself from the drags, even if doing so loses me points. I don't think a drag race would be suitable as a very first competitive outing in a streamliner I'll be bringing L-plates!

Rob, Thanks for the offer - I expect it will just be me this event and I'm happy to race 2 hours. I'm happy to volunteer for any bonking but I'll give the vomiting a miss! Looking forward to putting faces to the names. Richard

On the herding cats theme, past experience would lead me to change that to:
10.00 - 11:00 Arrive and sign on
11.00 Signing-on closes
OK, in practice, allowances can be made for people who turn up a bit late, possibly through no fault of their own, but it's better to set the expectation that people should be on site and signed on by 11.00, rather than arriving at some time vaguely around coffee time.

Fair point, Adrian. Due to the location of the track (i.e. miles from anywhere), I wanted to leave as much time as possible to get there, but I think you're right.
Consider Adrian's suggestion accepted - sign on will close at 11:00, with AA/RAC towing certificates required for late arrivals

I think it was NeilF who actually did arrive at a race once under these circumstances. We let him sign on...
