Ooops.  Sorry - I did fall off.

But not only was I wearing elbow guards but a pair of skinshort-stylee underpants under my shorts.  Result: Destroyed shorts and a bit of a scrape on the tail fairing but yours truly completely unscathed.Thumbs Up

Thanks to Neil for making the trip to bring the timing system.  Though we didn't get it working, that wasn't his fault.  Contrary to some reports the transmitter loop's battery was freshly charged.

Big thanks also to Graydog and Mrs Graydog for handling the registration and special, special thanks for those (apologies, I'm not sure who you all were) who stepped in to lap-count manually.

<edit>And of course to Neil Hood for all sorts of helping out and hospitality.  Last night's post-race BRANE fade let me leave that out. </edit>

May I add my thanks to Mrs T, Mrs L, Mrs GD for doing all the Video stuff, lap stuff and any stuff they did that I have not mentioned. Further to Heather and Andrew without whom we could not count the laps later as they brought the Video system. To Neil for bringing the timing system, sorry we did not set the loop up correct. Neil H, thanks for the meets and greets sorting people etc and for the ice drinks (kids say BIG THANKS for that). There were a number of others pitching in, thank you too.

Mrs GD and I apologies it was somewhat ad hoc organised, as we arrived at 10:20 ish and stepped in to the breach. In this respect it is my fault the timing loop was none functional for the race, I ought to have checked it fully. However, over the next day (ish) Mrs GD and I will scan the video and make a race listing for results.

Adrian now has the timing system and bhpc flags etc for the next race.

It was as usual an interesting race, some new comes and the wind!!!

See y’all next time round

kind regards
graydog

Posted on behalf of Andrew Sidwell:

Many thanks to all those who made Castle Combe possible, even though they weren’t expecting to.

Special thanks are also due to Mark Reeve, head of the electronics workshop where I work. Mark designed and built the voltage regulator that powers the video camera from an external battery through its USB port, so it can record for over 6 hours instead of the 1½ hours you get from the internal battery. What’s more Mark did this for us entirely for free and he’s not a member, or even a cyclist.

Sounds like some good racing. Shame I broke down 20 miles from Castle Combe on M4 (gearbox suddenly empty). Had a new bike onboard ready for testing (crashing!). Sat by the motorway visualising my way round the course whilst waiting for tow truck.
Anyone got any pics they can put a link to, see what I missed

Any chance of a write up for the mag, Andy ? Your bikes are unique, and would make for interesting reading ...

Will rattle off a few lines and pics for the mag as this bike has a few interesting ideas others could adapt. Only spent 4 days building it.

How did you manage that at Castle Coombe? Just lost interest? Mind you, Dave Larrington once went straight on at the last corner....

It was my first outing on Mike's 2008 Ratracer VLR - which has fairly extreme tiller steering, to which I am not accustomed - and a race long enough make taking a drink pretty much mandatory.  An attempted drinking manouevre led to a loss of control.  At least I did it when sitting on the back of the group so didn't take anyone else out.

I too fell off in full view of the spectators at the start/finish line, for the maximum embarrassment factor.
