Hi All, We have been invited to stage an event (race/demonstration) at the official opening of the new track in Colchester. Thanks to Rob Womack for placing his foot in the door for us! Please can you let us know if you would like to be involved so that we can get an idea of numbers. We would have a1.5 hour slot from 11:30 to 13:00 and it would be a great chance to show what HPVs can do, as well as allowing us to have a look at the track and facilities, in a part of the country we currently don't visit. It will be on the 24th July Edited by AlanGoodman - 13 July 2021 at 9:40pm |

I'd guess that it's the Northern Gateway Sports Park track: (bit far for me from Manchester sorry, but it looks like a good 1 mile long track) Google maps: https://www.google.com/maps/search/Colchester+cycle+track/@51.9271683,0.9029256,934m/data=!3m1!1e3 Youtube: https://youtu.be/P94ndZX0p5s Russ

Thanks Alan. Looks like a really nice track. Might go over for a ride/race around. Day and time suit me. All the best. Roy

For the Colchester open day on Sat 24th July we have been allocated the cycle track from 11:30-1pm.
enough time for a couple of fun races. depending on numbers will maybe do a slow 30min and a fast 30 min for anyone who is interested. |

No online registration for this one.
I'm aiming to get there for 10:30 to take down names and hpv details for anyone wanting to ride in order to decide if we have enough machines to split the field into two for a 30min fast race and 30min slow race or to do a couple of all-in 30min races (one in each direction). We only have the track for 1.5 hrs, so will be good to make the most of the short timeframe. Will have 15 min warm-up time before starting the first race at 11:45. |

Sadly my ICE VTX will not be available, waiting for Madison to send a warranty replacement Shimano front mech.
So….If acceptable, I will come along with my CF Campag equipped racing Brompton folder, as I do want to support both the club and the new velodrome facility and I have a rare space in the diary too. (The Brompton has done the Brompton World Championships four times (Blenheim x2, Goodwood and The Mall, but have yet to get anywhere close to winning! Its the journey and the experience that is important! Not necessarily beating Millar down The Mall)! Diversity is everything, even if the aerodynamics were not top of Andrew Ritchie’s design criteria. |

Tomorrow we won't have the timing kit, so will be doing it old-school (master stopwatch and five-bar gate tallying of riders laps). So if you see this in time please try and remember to bring a pen/pencil with you as you might need to to help count another riders laps when you're not on the track.....
