Andrew and I are organising Darley Moor and this is what we propose:

1. SIGNING ON will be ready to start at 10.00am

2. The first race will start at 11.30 for 45 minutes plus one lap (allowing plenty of time to try out the track and warm up)

3. The second race will start at 12.45 for 45 minutes plus one lap (allowing some time for those in the second race to warm up)

4. At 2.15 (ish) we will run some sprints for fun, pretty much like last year for those who were there but with a twist Wink.

The twist is that is will be a sprint biathlon i.e. running and riding

       i. it will be a knockout competition, the number of rounds determined by the number of competitors.
ii. Individual races will be between 2 or 3 people depending on the number entering.
iii. For each race you start at the start/finish line and RUN back towards your bike which will be on the starting grids (about 80m)
iv. you then RIDE back to the start/finish line and whoever crosses it first goes on to the next round.
       v. those riding with only two wheels can have a "holder" on the grid
vi. those riding fully faired might like to think twice
vii. there will be prizes yet to be decided but maybe differentiate gender and number of wheels.

Note: this is only for fun but it will only work if lots of people sign up to do it.

General things for new people:

  • One of the races is for faster riders and one is for not so fast riders.
  • Everyone gets one race.
  • Which race is run first is decided on the day.
  • Racing costs £7 for the day of you are a member and £10 if you are not.
  • Membership costs £15 per year.
Heather

Haha, the sprints thus selecting very strongly in favour of people who don't wear posh cycling shoes with no soles, it'll be fun to watch them try though!

That sounds very painful for people wearing look style cleats...
Can we run on the grass alongside the track?

I should be there early so let me know what assistantinging you need me to do.

Given that running 80m takes a lot longer than cycling 80m I would expect that ordinary shoes would be better in spite of the loss in pedalling efficiency.

Only prob with using regular shoes is the possibility of leg-suck. Maybe I could fabricate a plywood board which would fit beneath the pedals to catch my feet should they fall from the pedals while I am mashing away.
Current fleet: Milan SL MK2 #027, Fujin SL II, Beany!

Or perhaps run the two separately, do a run split in normal shoes and add that time to your bike split.

I think the point of the event is the tactics: you could try the triathlon trick of leaving the shoes clipped in the pedals, though I'm not sure how well that transfers to lying-down bikes. Meanwhile those with recessed-cleat shoes, which are reasonably easy to run in, stand to profit from extortionate hire charges Wink.

I'm a little disappointed to read this as I was looking forward to competing in the now almost traditional, Darley Moor Sprint event, but cannot run to save my life (well...maybe to save my life...).

Still I firmly believe in the 'Organisator's Prerogative' - couldn't you make the run 5 metres, though?Cry

Thanks for a great day and very welcoming atmosphere.

One slight discrepancy with the results is that I actually completed 13 laps not 12.

I counted them.
And I lapped Darren about 2 laps out from home.
And Phil didn't lap me.
Can this be corrected please?

Thanks,

Jes
