Judith and I would prefer Curborough to any alternative.
I do not understand why our existing booking has been unilaterally cancelled in favour of another customer. Since it appears that a BHPC booking at Darley Moor is considered merely provisional should somebody else want the circuit, I would not be in favour of using Darley Moor again.

Further to my earlier vote for Curborough, another plus is that it's not a repeat of a venue already in this year's calendar.
I can understand NickM's frustration, but we have to realise that with the motor sport tracks it boils down to money. In general, we pay a small fraction of the fee that would be demanded if we wanted to stage a day of motor racing, because we're using tracks that have restrictions on the number of days use for motor sport (because of noise). We're paying them a bit for a track that would otherwise have been completely unused. I know that this is the case with Castle Combe. I don't know for sure about Darley Moor, but I rather suspect that it is. We are the poor relations, and I guess we have to be a bit philosophical if that's how we get treated. I'd take the risk of an occasional problem (I don't recall another in-season cancellation at Darley Moor, though they once forgot we were coming) rather than race yet another v+l+dr+me.

Actually they have a "Big Bike Ride" charity event on 6th July - one go round the track (2 miles) for £5 and sponsorship - if we are in the vicinity. Sadly it doesn't start until 5.30.
I've searched for other local tracks and not yet come up with anything. Fards do you know of anywhere reasonably close - sort of your territory?

A look at Curburough's website indictes that 20th July is not advertised as booked - gNick - is it worth chasing them, or for a Saturday?

How about bringing the race forward a week and having it at Bentwaters ? As we have already been invited to go over and have a ride around on the 13th of July.

That's a good idea
When I see the Ipswich boys on Wednesday evening I'll ask
If we are going to race, Bentwaters is a big place so we won't
get in each others way
Ipswich bc will ask us to help them pay for the use of the place
that shouldn't be problem or would it

Darley Moor on the 13th would be fantastic - 'cos the York contingent will in any case be spending the Saturday (12th) at this. Bentwaters doesn't fit quite so well...
On a more serious note, in the interests of not thoroughly fcuking-up racers' plans for their Championship campaigns, major criteria for any choice of replacement event must surely be
a) For it to be on the same date - or the same weekend, at least
b) Given a choice of venues available for the date, to pick one as close as possible to the original.

Curborough is good for me and Dave because our tickets would allow us to travel to Tamworth station... (get off before Derby). |

There is that Lincoln track we tried a few years ago. It has apparently had some work done on it and been resurfaced since we last used it although I have not been to it since.
There is also cadwell park but that is 1: expensive IIRC, 2: most likley booked up, 3: quite far from the original track. It does however have something most BHPC tracks don't have and that is hills. Edited by LeeW - 30 June 2008 at 1:16pm |
