Hi All,

I have been contemplating a build, I have a frame (Colombo from ukraine) and most parts now, wheels brakes etc..  But I can't figure out what to do with the drive train.

I have 29 a wheel at the back with a 42 to 11t cassette, at the front I have 2 oval rings, 36t and 50t.  But I don't know what derailleurs to go with, probably Shimano or SRAM as that would be compatible with my cogs.  But I then get lost with long and short gates, I struggle to find a 2 gear front derailleur as they seem to be for 10s or 11s only and I'm not sure if this makes a difference. I phoned a normal bike shop and they refused to give advice as they know nothing of recumbents, phoned a recumbent shop and they would also not provide advice and told me to check in with the Forums.  So here I am.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.  points to note, I'm now broke do to the frame so I'm trying to keep to a small budget now.

Thanks for you help in advance.

Is it for road or racing? For racing with a 29 wheel I run a 1x with a 53T and a 12-25 cassette.
On my 29 road bike I’ve also gone 1x with a 42T and a 12 speed 11-34 cassette, and that gets me up all but the very steepest hills.
And it’s cheap, and no faffing with front derailleurs.
