I haven't been there - in fact I'd never heard of it. From stuff on Flickr it looks like it might be OK, but being both fairly short and fairly narrow, I guess we'd have to split racing into smaller groups than we normally do.
I've put details on my list.
Anyone got any contact details for the Solihull reack, by the way?

Sorry, Darren should have as he is our Solihull race organiser.
I couldn't find where it said how long that track was. Is it a 250m affair?

I haven't seen anything that says, but from photos I'd guess at the same order as velodromes at Sbunthorpe, Reading, Welwyn and Wolverha... , i.e. 450m or a little more

From one of the magazine pages
In commemoration of the centenary a prize of £100 was put up by Guy Elliot CEO of DHL Northern Europe for the fastest flying lap (440 yds) this has been won by Martin Smith (Chesterfield Coureurs) in a time of 27.86 secs (51.99kph/32.30 mph). This time will now stand as the track record for any further attempts. So I would assume then 440 yds or 366 metres.

Hi all
I have been reluctent to suggest this track even though I live about 1 mile from it.
I have riden maybe 2 laps of it and IIRC it is in fair condition , however it has neglijable banking [ unlike Scunthorpe say ] and it is near a very rough part of town [ ok rougher than the rough parts ! ]
I don't know who to approach about it's hire or the facilities , I have only seen it being used by schools etc never seen anyone in Lycra riding it.
I can get some photographs taken if they are any help ?
regards Paul

Google maps:
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=&q=Forest+Town,+Mansfield&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Forest+Town,+Mansfield,+Nottinghamshire,+United+Kingdom&gl=uk&ei=ZIC3TJPqA8K4jAf--f30AQ&ved=0CBsQ8gEwAA&ll=53.151448,-1.160935&spn=0.00139,0.005284&t=h&z=18 Looks like an odd shaped velodrome with 4 sides. Judging by what appears to be graffiti on the track surface backs up stormbird's comments. |
