Never mind the saddle, it's the Silly Sustrans Gates™.  A friend of mine got stuck in one of those A-frame ones while she was pregnant, and she wasn't even cycling.

That's a kissing gate, an A-frame is one of these:



This isn't a particularly bad one.  Notable for being a rare example of a cyclepath obstruction that's more annoying if you're on a standard flat-barred DF bike than it is on most recumbents (the ICE trike could ride straight through).
