I noticed that BHPC are running the 2024 World Championships and this forum has individual threads for the past several world championships, including the 2022 championships in France. Where are the 2023 World Championships being held?

Note: subjected to changes - see website (below) for latest details.

HPV World Championships 11 to 13 August 2023 in Lustenau, Vorarlberg AT

The Parkstadion Lustenau is planned as the centre of the World Championships, currently the organisation team around Werner Klomp is in the process of defining the course and obtaining the necessary permits.

The following programme is planned:

- Friday evening: Hill climb

- Saturday morning: Sprints

- Saturday afternoon: 1-hour race

- Sunday: 3-hour race

The tracks of the two long races are expected to be winding and twisting and we hope to be able to offer challenging and exciting races.

For the mountain race, we hope to be able to race on the other side of the Rhine on Swiss soil.

For the sprints we will find long, flat and straight tracks, possibly along the Rhine dam.

Important: Deviations and changes reserved!

As of December 2022, the planning could not yet be finalised, we are optimistic but important definitive approvals are still pending. Further information, the programme and updates will follow on the homepage (currently still under construction): https://www.hpvwm2023.org/ or the World Championships thread at https://www.velomobilforum.de/forum/index.php?threads/hpv-weltmeisterschaft-oesterreich-vorarlberg-august-2023.67476/.

Excellent. The Young Lady notes that PBP doesn’t start till the following weekend, so it is just a matter of if she rides the whole way between the two events or whether a recumbent trike can be taken on Swiss or French trains (anybody know?).

Hello,
In Switzerland you can take the trike in most trains (not international ones) provided you purchase a bike ticket (around 10CHF)
In France, TGV generally don't take bikes (unless they fit in a suitcase). Only regional trains will allow bikes / trikes for free.
The best bet would be to take a Swiss train to Geneva (via Zurich it takes about 4-5h). From there a french TER train to Lyon (2h). From there another TER train to Paris Bercy (5h). Obviously you'll probably have to stop over in Lyon for one night.
Hope this helps.

I just wrote an article on the french HPV forum, about half faired trikes at the next WC in Austria:

I translate it into English for you, because I'm sure many of you are interested.

On the WC2023 flyer we can read:
http://oliviercresson.free.fr/telech/crite_wc2022.png

It's an opportunity to create the "Half Faired Trikes" a category of which I am the enthusiastic promoter. I did several races with my faired VTX, including the last XC in Orgelet (I was in the half-faired category and not in trike category).

https://.jimcdn.com/app/cms//transf/dimension=630x1024:at=jpg/path/seae7e285e64e2af4//ie633b92f34789d02/version/1605693701/.jpg

A pin tail improves aerodynamics, and the average speed is significantly increased, as you can see on the following table. That is more important when you have to race on flats circuits, like at Lustenau.

For a lot of trikers, this speed increase allows to ride faster, like many 2-wheels unfaired bikes, and this is more fun.

Any number to support my argument:

- I did 75km/h in the down hill of the Orgelet Criterium circuit (For a 67 years rider, it's not so bad :-)

- you can see in the following table the results of a famous french race, "Tour du Lac de Paladru", with 14 km long and a few little uphills

line 138: my own result as half faired trike (average speed 37,95 km/h)

line 152 : best trike performance (average speed 36,37 km/h)

line 163 : my own result with unfaired VTX (average speed 35,5 km/h)

So, the pin tail increase the trike speed with 4,3%, according with the best trike performance, and 6,9% according my own performance with my unfaired VTX

http://oliviercresson.free.fr/telech/results_paladru.png

If you look at the Orgelet Criterum results, you can see that Jochem Leemans is at the fourth place just with 0,1 km/h average speed lower than Davis and his velomobil.

No doubt that with a pin tail, he will gain more than one place in the ranking!

I hope, you will race with a half faired trike at the next WC, and I asked the sae to my french friends who are riding trike, to contribue to create a new category.

I will be happy to give you the templates of my Corex fairing, that is two lbs light, easy to build and very cheap. I hope that manufacturers like ICE will build beautiful carbon pin tails to accessorize their trikes.

Thanks for answering !

Greetings,

Olivier CRESSON,

President of french recumbent association (AFV)
