Topic: Front Numbers Posted: 13 July 2009 at 3:00pm |
Other matters arising from last weekend (Lancaster/Preston): It was notable that a number of riders were not displaying front number plates and with others the digits were too small to read at a reasonable distance. This, as usual, caused some difficulty with establishing the finish order, but also caused great confusion in the time trial, where it is necessary to identify the rider's number early enough to know whether to give them the bell or the flag. Any complaints about errors in this respect or in the race results from someone not displaying a legible front number will likely be treated with little sympathy, and possibly contempt, by the organisers... We will probably be doing more secondary races like TTs this season, so please can everyone ensure they have an easily legible front number fitted to their bike (and that it is the same number they are registered under!). I would strongly recommend that each digit is at least 3" (76mm) high, in a clear, bold font and a contrasting colour to the background. It should be noted that numbers issued for recent World Championships were intended for use with a transponder and may not be good enough for manual scoring. We are not the sort of club that will start disqualifying people without warning, but please can we have your co-operation in this - why not do it this week, rather than 5 minutes before the next race!? Thank you.

Sorry for not having my correct number on. I hope that no confusion resulted in our case, but I am assured by the conscientious Jonathan that he will be bringing #82 for me and #84 for himself to the next dual-rider race meeting.

I was going to get some numbers professinally made for the fish like the ones I had on the fujin at fowlmead (hope you all liked them). However my mate who was doing them for me had more important paid jobs on so I made some from electrical tape as a fill-in. I hope to have proper numbers by next race.

Apologies. I had to take the front number off for the Worlds and between getting back late Monday night and leaving for Lancaster Friday evening I didn't find time to put it back and also forgot to bring it with me. It will be in place for Darley Moor.

We remembered to correct for that particular anomoly Yowie . At least we were made aware of it at registration. I seem to remember your electrical tape was legible as it was beatifully crafted, like everything you do Lee. It don't matter how you do it, as long as we can read it! PS: I have just discovered that I was registered as number 50 and was displaying number 150

I to put my hand up in shame. As I was displaying one but registered as 49. That is because the number one was put on top of the forty nine at the Worlds. So just before Langaster race I tried to remove the number one, but it also started to remove forty nine. Lesser of two evils. No number or wrong number. Grovaling appologises.

Guilty I forgot that the number was on the bag, and the bag wasn't on the bike, until it was too late. What can I say but "Der..."? The bike will have its own front number next time!
