Over the course of last weekend's racing, three (at least) people who'd been in the field for the first of the two heats and had experienced attacks of the MECHANICALS, took part in the second heat, by way of having a second go. To the best of my recollection, this is the first time I'd had such a request in my tenure as CompSec. I did not raise any objections at the time so I intend to allow those second goes to stand If I recall correctly the outcomes of those second goes, only one of those (Mike Burrows's) was of any significance, and I'm the person who lost out most.
However my predecessor, gNick, has reminded me of his practice in such circumstances. He explained his rationale and, I have to say, I agree with it and will adopt his practice in future.
The practice will be this: should anyone take a second go at a race which has been divided up into heats, that second go will not be eligible for points: only the first go will count.
The rationale is simply that it is unfair to allow riders in the first heat to have a second go, because a rider in the last heat who suffers a similar failure has no equivalent opportunity. In cases where it is fair to allow a second go - for example someone who has a problem at or near the start of a time-trial - that will be allowed.

Good idea to reinforce this otherwise you could end up with half the first race competitors in the second race just by knocking the chain off and claiming a mechanical because they were having a bad race. Not that anyone in our club would do such a thing!

As one of the people who had another go, (by invitation I may add), and had another mechanical in his other go I welcome the clarification, in future I won't have another go, so won't knacker myself for the next race, or if a double day the next day! As a gesture of good will to those i have pinched points off I am happy to have my second go at Lancaster to be discounted and just have my crash race taken into account.

As a gesture of bloody mindedness I am happy for you to stay in the second race cos the Lancaster results are OK...
