There have been a few enquiries about our E-Assist Class.
Just to clarify, we are running this on a trial basis in an attempt to be inclusive. Our insurers have said they are happy with this as long as the machines are classed as bicycles - motors must be under 250 Watts Max and must cut out at or below 15.5 MPH. Note that machines exceeding this will not be covered by our insurance and will not be allowed on track by most of the venues we use.
Insurance is the big issue here. We cannot race without it.
To do so would make organisers and members of the BHPC Committee personally liable and none of us are prepared to risk that.
So we will be checking all machines and only those that comply with the current regulations will be allowed on the track.
Checking power may not be as straight-forward as it sounds but the motors will have to be 250W MAX. If they are capable of more than that they won't be allowed on the track. It will hopefully be obvious if people are using power over 15.5 MPH. If that proves to be the case then the class won't exist for very long I'm afraid. Bottom line is we cannot run without valid insurance.
