Any recommendations for any particular make/model?

No specific recommendation but if your handlebars mean you ride with bent elbows, then make sure the pad is comfortable in that position.  Some of the mountain bike oriented ones assume a mostly-straight arm, while the skater ones might work better with bent elbows.

Also best to avoid anything that functions as too much of an arm warmer.  The cheapo ones I'd been using (until their elastic gave up towards the end of last season) are effective insulators, which isn't ideal in warmer conditions.

My favourites after trying a few are these because they are lightweight cool and reasonably aero.....http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dainese-Trail-Skins-Elbow-Guard/dp/B078GJH118/ref=asc_df_B078GJP48Y/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=338555860047&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7870502855895321837&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9045116&hvtargid=pla-439437021262&th=1&psc=1

I wear medium.

They also do undershorts that protect your hips. I have to cut some of the crutch pad away to make them comfortable to me but they are very tough, but they are very expensive.
