it could also be a plan that an overall "world champion" could be accredited overall based on av speeds (or some other format that someone else could bicker about) during those contintental champs. 

Looking at some of the speeds of the aussie lads racing the pedal prix, I for one am quite glad they haven't attended organised or attended a WC en masse.. 

 

Some good ideas being proffered.  With the WRRA standing up to take care of all the recumbent records that the IHPVA/WHPVA/EHPVA/UHPVA/whateverHPVA doesn't, I think the framework is there for comparing racer's performances across the planet.  North American HPV races tend to be dominated by outdoor velodrome racing, 200m and 1km sprints, and either timed or lap races.  As the venues are all pretty much similar, it's easy to compare performances from one velodrome to the next.  Even a couple event's that aren't velodromes are still run on race car ovals where results and times/speeds are very similar to velodrome efforts because the tracks are flat like velodromes.  Not sure why velodromes are preferred over road tracks.  Availability, cost, insurance, something else?  Waterford is run on a 1.6 mi (I think) road track and it is a nice, small, tight venue, and a popular event.

 

The UK lads seem to predominantly race on road courses with longer time formats and seemingly fewer sprints.  The northern Europeans seem to race both road-type courses and velodromes with equal regularity, so finding a common ground would be, and is, easier, and a number of WRRA records are already held by Europeans.  I think tthe WRRA guys also said that they would recognize indoor and outdoor/straight line efforts separately as well.  Maybe Larry can clarify?

 

So, purely hypothetical, how would world champion points be awarded?  Based on specific types of events/distances/times that have parity around the world?  "World championship points" would be awarded based on comparative times/speeds for similar events?  How many results would be used?  Best 5 results of each event type?  Best single effort of each event type?  What race formats would be used as qualifiers?  200m, 1km, 1 hour?  Who's vehicle class system would be used?  Would an overall champion be titled, or individual class and event champions, some, or all?

 

These are just questions, I'm not trying to stir anything up :)  If people are racing the same recumbents, at different spots on the planet, I see no reason why they can't be called the same things or given the same recognition, understanding that not all class/types of vehicles are raced in enough numbers, in all places, to get their own separate class . . yet, but globally, for "world points", they should/could be identified separately.  Trikes would be a prime example.  The HPRA generally has enough trikes racing that they have their own class now, whereas other places, they race with the rest of the unfaired/stock recumbents.
