I agree entirely... we might as well draw straws to see who wins as run 50m drags...

I also agree with Kevin - We should do what we are good at given what's available on site... There is absolutely no reason why we HAVE to have a 200m sprint and we certainly shouldn't be looking at closing roads or using any tracks other than the circuits available at Fowlmead...

While on the subject of Donington, does anyone know what that Blue Thing on the aforementioned bridge (just after the Old Hairpin) is?  It's been bugging me for years.

I must agree with Andrew, unfortunately the campsite facilities at Bentwaters were a bit of a low point in an otherwise good event.

The showers would have been acceptable for a smaller event but the toilets could only be described as appaling in terms of  both quality and quantity.

Having spent over 20 years now in the world of construction and working at exhibitions such as boatshows I've seen the best (Southampton Boatshow)and the worst (building site toilets in Scotland) temporary facilities available and there's no reason why we can't do something that is of a suitable standard, unfortunately I appreciate there's a budget so we're not going to get the sort of facilities you get at a boatshow where people are paying thousands of pounds to rent stands selling oysters and champagne, but we should be able to hire proper kit.

So rather than sit here and criticise or moan about past events I'll put my head above the parapet and say that if we decide to do the Worlds I'll volunteer to help find suitable hire faciliteis using my experience and contacts in the site set up market and help to try and do the best possible to make the event a success.

Barney - that's a great offer - if you can sort something out I'm sure everyone will be very relieved

Well said Barney, I remember having a lovely hot shower at Bentwaters and thought the showers were quite nice, the portaloos could have been better.  I'm sure better bigger facilites must be available to hire. A few people seemed unhappy with the burger van trackside catering at Bentwaters so maybe this could be looked at too or maybe the cafe at Fowlmead would be intested in staying open in the evening and putting on a second set menu for pre booked evening meals on site. The cafe looks big enough inside to cope on a rotating basis.

For what it's worth the showers & portaloos at Bentwaters weren't our thing and were rather left to the last minute, which is why they hadn't got the showers for long enough. They also normally cater for tv crews and the like who in my, albeit limited, experience seem to go for the absolute minimum.
If you can get something decent Barney, that would be brilliant.

I think we do need to do some investigative work regarding the danger of coal dust in the water if it rains. Some careful placement of tents might be in order...

as I have experienced on both my visits to Fowlmead the rain does affect things somewhat, the ground at the part of the hill we parked at was waterlogged this weekend, and looking at the plants that grew there (Bog plants) water seems to be present even in a dry spell, down the bottom of the hill, well it was not a good place to drive through, never mind camp!  However, i didn't go right to the top of the hill, maybe that was a missed opportunity!  It might be dry up there if a tad draughty!
