The harbour authority at Portsmouth run a secure car park that is open 24hrs a day. It's £35 for four days, less if booked with a ferry&accommodation package. For more info call 02392 873378 or visit http://www.ihampshire.co.uk/profile/68707/Portsmouth/C-P-S/
Go on Glyn, you know you want to . . .

Hi Keith, how much is it on the ferry as a foot passenger with bike and do you need to book in advance. I assume they are used to funny looking bikes if you use the service regularly. Also what is the island like for wind that time of year as I was thinking of bringing my upright faired bike. I managed to ride it in the worlds last year but anything windier than that I'll be struggling

I'd love to come, but don't have the funds unfortunately.
I'd agree on the route into Portsmouth, not anything really usuable from what I could find. Was down there last week, but it was rideable outside of rush hour if you're used to a bit of traffic. (only did the last few miles in on the a27 and i think a2303?) the really crap bit was crossing the m3 slip. |

Taking a bike on the ferry very is dead easy - just ride on! They usually let you ride to the front of the queue and get on first. You need to book, but there is no additional cost & no restriction on the number or type of bike/trike. If only trains were that easy (but I suppose they are a bit smaller)! As for wind, being an island there is always a light breeze. Sometimes it blows a bit stronger, but this is the exception - esp in the summer. The only exposed part is the sprint course, and a couple of corners on the time trial course. The cycle track for the BHPC race has trees on three sides, buildings on the fourth, and the town crit circuit is, well, surrounded by buildings. What's the alternative to bringing the upright faired bike? |

It depends where you are coming from, but another route to the ferry in Portsmouth is to go via Gosport & take a ferry the short distance to Portsmouth. Could be a bit of a detour, and you still need to go the short distance through Portsmouth between ferries, but the route to Gosport is much more pleasant. |

As an altrenative to the upright faired I have a semi faired upright and flevo recumbent but they are both much slower and less entertaining so I might risk it. Sounds like only the sprints I might have a problem windy corners I can cope with.
On the ferry do they store bikes below or above deck as I'll need to tether my bike if it's above deck

Not wanting to open the 'points issue' can of worms BUT how will the racing points system apply. Do we have to compete in all the recumbent events? Is the normal points system in use?

I think only the track race counts as BHPC championship points
