A bit of a long shot but would anyone have a set of the M5 Ergonomic Brake levers they would like to part with??

Nigel, I wouldn't recommend them, see here for my experience with them.

Ah thanks Melle. I should have done a search and found your post - very helpful. Have twist grip gears so the EBS looked a good option especially as attaching on the main centre bar rather than the hand tubes.  The shifters rather tired too. Looking at all options. Want to make sure I can stop!

One of my Barons has twist shifters and bar end brake levers, works a treat:



Mirror is 80mm Busch + Müller Cycle Star, I have them on all my recumbents.

I've got some fairly old XT combined two-finger brake levers / trigger shifters on mine.  Bit of a tight bend in the cables, but it shifts well enough and it's not like you want the rear brake to be too grabby anyway.  (I'm not a fan of twist grip shifters.)

I have a pair of the smaller Cyclestar mirrors, which - secured with an additional cable-tie to the top of the brake cables - sit neatly somewhere above my knuckes and can just about see over the tailbox.  They're excellent mirrors, though the last 80mm one I bought for my Streetmachine has a bad case of droop.

Thanks for your input Kim. I think I'll try Melle's suggestion as a starting point as I see SJS have some in stock. Not tried twist shifters before so that will be interesting. Mirrors can wait a bit until I've got brakes sorted.

Correction: I wrote 80mm, but the mirrors I use are the small (60mm) variant. The one on my Stinger also needs a cable tie; I guess the ones with the shorter stalk won't have the droop-issue.

You might think that, and it was certainly how it worked in the past (longer stem mirrors needed the handlebar clamp done up quite tight to avoid the whole arm drooping).  But the lastest one is loose at the ball-in-socket joint on the back of the mirror, so the stalk stays put but the mirror ends up drooping.  No adjustment there.  Poor quality control, I expect.  I'd have sent it back to the retailer, but I bought it as a spare and didn't discover the problem until I fitted it much later.
