I don't know if there is any discussion anywhere for this, but I want to register my comment about running a Worlds in 2012. I can't think of a reason to do it. It isn't our turn so we don't have to. I believe there is another big event on, which is likely to reduce any attention we get. It is also likely to make transport from over the water more expensive. We can't compete with a hugely expensive international event. I think it is best not to try.

I will not be running any more big events. If gNick has any sense, he won't either, so the main thing we need for a Worlds is a person with the vision and motivation to organize it.

Maybe we could regard one of our weekend events as "The Nationals" as we used to. It would give others a chance to try running things on a slightly bigger scale.

I started running events after going to several international events which were poorly and/or inappropriately organised. I think Tilburg was pretty much one of those. Not enough emphasis on good courses and races. As a rider, I wanted a better event.

In my view, providing plenty of interesting and varied racing for the rider is the only law.

At the moment we are struggling to get volunteers to organise BHPC events so I agree finding somebody to run the Worlds is likely to be tricky!!

I don't think we have confirmed organisers for many events this year after Darley Moor... Cry

If we really did want to host the event and had somebody willing to organise then I don't think the Olympics would be a huge problem though - We would just need to avoid the couple of weeks when they are taking place.

I have to say that I'm not falling over myself to organise a world championship, either.  I'd be willing to participate as a member of an organising team, but it's not something I'd want to lead.

On the subject of volunteer organisators for BHPC races, though I have tentative offers for a couple of events and Claire and I plan to do our usual quota too, there are still plenty of events that are open opportunities for members to do their bit for the club.

I don't mind doing a supporting role at one maybe two events this year to try and get a feel for what's involved, but full blown organising is not on my agenda as i really don't enjoy that kind of thing!  I'm at Darley, but that is spoken for a believe, after that my choice for helping would be Scunthorpe, as it is the next closest to where i live.

I should add that it is not because i'm afraid to stand up, shout, organise, cajole, bully and instruct, but after doing that 40-50hrs a week to go and do something where i can be told what to do is nice - selfish but nice!

Don't know about sense, I certainly don't have enough time or energy to think about it never mind doing it.

Ref Adrian's event: Is that Lancaster? Do you want sprint timing again? Can you get your breakfast at a reasonable time?   There are a few changes to make to the kit and procedures. It would be useful to test it, but I don't want it to be like last year.

Yes, I was planning on organisating Lancaster & Preston again.  We're staying in the same place again - but booked on the understanding that they'll serve us breakfast at 8 this time, rather than starting to think about it sometime after 9.
