I didn't camp at Bentwaters, neither would I be likely to camp at Fowlmead, so I won't pronounce on whether or not portable facilities are acceptable.  If they were acceptable at Bentwaters, then Fowlmead shouldn't be an problem since there are some permanent facilities (rather than none).  Similarly, whilst I find it surprising how little non-camping accommodation there seems to be, for a seaside area, there's a lot more than there was in the vicinity of Bentwaters.  There are also more pubs, shops etc. within a few miles.

My big worry at the moment is getting a suitable date.  There has been a lot of talk of a date in June.  However, Cycle Vision is already pencilled in at the end of June, and it sounds quite likely (McDee tells me the French and Dutch have been asking after it) to be recumbent racing in Jersey again, at the beginning of June.  Could three International events in four weeks - when it's not even the holiday season - work?  I think not.

Later in the summer the Olympics / Paralympics might cause us some problems.  I know from our B&B hosts last weekend that sports fans from the continent are already booking accomodation in the area, assessing it as a reasonably convenient and less expensive option compared to staying in London.

With the Olympics closing on 12th August and Paralympics opening on 29th, perhaps the window between the two might be an option?

I'd be in favour for an event later rather than early in the year, late august/early september would be good for me.

Yes, fowlmead does not have a sprint straight but do we need one? Just have a 1-lap TT or something like that instead?

I much prefer to have everything on one site rather than spread around like at tilberg and jersey.

And please, no races on open cyclepaths, they tried it at Tilberg and it was a disaster. Never again should that be attempted.
And while the TT and 200m sprint at jersey was on an open road, it was not particularly enjoyable (especially with the very strong crosswind present on the day), I'd rather not.
Current fleet: Milan SL MK2 #027, Fujin SL II, Beany!

IIRC correctly, the road had been closed for the 200m in Jersey.  The wind was interesting, I agree, but wind is something we would have to expect at Fowlmead too.

For a sprint the big circuit could be used, the top series of bends could be the wind up section, then the timing system on the downhill portion in front of where we had the start/finish line on saturday's short race, then run out towards the L/H bend where there is still enough room to stop, and if not then yer brakes are rubbish and yer shouldn't be racing!!

As for 50m drags - who cares!!!  unless they are only worth 1% of the total points!

I agree Ian - if we are going to do this then make the events fit the circuit or don't have them.  I suspect we as a club have the biggest range of events in use during the year.  If we think they are good for us - why aren't we encouraging others to do similar.  So why can't we uses a selection of what we do during the season.

I know that motor-racing circuits are prohibitively expensive.  So how did the Pedalcars afford to race at Donnington Park on the real track?  I only wonder because I've seen a photo on the BHPC main site of somebody near to the recognisable (but unusable iirc) bridge over the track.

I think that was at Bike Radar or some such event Howard, not a BPCC event.
