I appreciate we haven't got Darley out of the way yet, but i was wondering what accommodation people were thinking of using for Preston/Lancs, and where, bearing in mind Preston is on the Saturday??

I'm interested too in any recommended (non-canvas) accommodation. My web searches are showing very few affordable vacancies over that weekend Preston or Lancaster areas...... indeed, even 4* hotel single availability like hen's teef....

I stayed in the Travelodge on the M6 when I went up there a couple of years ago... I got a really good deal on one of their silly £10 a night offers I think...

Usual rate is £36.85 if you book in advance...

Anybody up for camping?     <tumbleweed>

So Alan, was that £10 the walk on fare, without booking and taking a chance on availability?

Posted By: AlanGoodman
Date Posted: 06 July 2012 at 8:34pm
No it was one of their internet promotions - I booked it well in advance.
Nothing like that available at the moment so it looks like it would be £36...

Not sure I'm going up yet but I'll probably camp/kip in the van if I do...

As one who grew up in the area, look around the towns and villages between Preston and Lancaster: Broughton, Barton, Brock, Bilsborrow, Catterall, Garstang, Galgate, St. Michaels, Churchtown, Calder Vale (out on't moors), Caton, Winmarleigh, Cockerham, Glasson.  Even Morecambe's not that far from Preston, plus off the A6 to the west you've got the whole Fylde out to and including Blackpool, although I'd understand if you didn't want to go there.

Claire and I are organisating Preston.  Thoughts at the moment are for a short (say 3 lap) TT and a race of the usual 45 mins to an hour length.

Jon and Anne Coulson are leading Lancaster.  They've suggested half an hour each way round.

Most people usually camp here... http://www.redbankfarm.co.uk/" rel="nofollow - red bank farm ...
I've called them and they do have space for this weekend and they are happy with me doing a pikey impression and kipping in the back of the van... Which is nice because some camp sites are a bit snobby about that sort of thing... Big smile

I'm planning to stay there Saturday and Sunday nights...

Hi All
Had a good day at Lancaster today. The weather seemed to be behaving. Thanks to all who gave me a little time to talk technical. Hope my lad wasn't pestering too many of you. He is looking forward to having a go next year as a junior. He was very happy to cheer on the younger racers, ring last lap bell and hold the flag.

Thanks again.

Thanks to all the organisers at Lancaster and Preston - we had a great weekend as usual!

Hope nobody from the BHPC was involved with the crash at Garstang they were reporting on the radio on the way back Unhappy.

Many thanks from me too... That was a great weekend - The last race was really good fun with 5 of us all working well together... Congratulations to Barney (git...) for spotting that we were on the last lap and catching me and Leo snoozing!

Three very close finishes with Leo this weekend... Sports Class could be interesting afterall... Big smile

I have been appointed as official scribe for the Preston/Lancaster weekend. Since my recollections of the weekend do not extend far beyond staring at the back end of Mr Burrows' vehicle, which would make a very dull contribution to his esteemed organ, I would be grateful for pictures and/or stories from any of the races.

500 extra Championship Points are available to anyone with a photo of the Preston Hedgehog.

Please feel free to post photo-links here but send scribblings to me by PM, otherwise I can't claim it as my own when it appears in the mag.

Many thanks - Andrew

Andrew, I can't provide a photo, but would a reasonably accurate sketch get me some of those points? I was even able to count the number of his (yes, a male hedgehog) spines - 6389 - as he lapped me twice during my race. Confused

That was a cracking weekend. Thanks to all the organisators who made it possible, and to the racers who rode well and fairly (everybody!) and made it such fun Smile

Special congratulations to Sarah T for scoring the most exciting race win we have seen for ages and ages Clap

Commiserations to Joe P for being her victim after appearing to have it in the bag - but somebody has to provide the competition to make an excellent race...

Thanks to all who helped us at Lancaster, special mention to Alan Braley who organised the marshalling and relieved us of the responsibility. Luckily the weather was good to us to make good use of this interesting circuit.

Thanks to both sets of organisers for the smooth running events, and for the weather too for which I for one was thankful.  The films are with the developers, so hopefully at least one or two good photos therein.  Please, NO more enquiries for photos of the fantastic sprint finish, that I missed Embarrassed- I had already run out of film, sorry guys.

I ran the first race with a camera attached to my machine, Was expecting some great footage, plugged it into my computer to find a 2 second vid. grrrrrr!!!!! Maybe serves me right for buying a £20 720p HD keyfob camera from hong kong...

I should be getting a video of Joe vs Sarah from a spectator I spotted with a camera. Too big to transfer on the spot so he has promised to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Mail" rel="nofollow - post me a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_Disc" rel="nofollow - CD (two more technologies from before your time, Lee!)

There is a bit of a problem with the results for Lancaster due to eight of the tags failing to record anything. We have finish times for all races (thanks to Jon and Anne) and tallies for three races (thanks to Katie), so it's nearly all there but if anyone has information on lap counts in the first (fast) race for the following riders I would be most grateful:
Giovanni Strawbridge
Howard Yeomans
Graham Sparey-Taylor
My own tag was another victim of the evil Tag Fairy Angry, whose wickedness seemingly knows no bounds.

I may be wrong, but wasn't Giovanni a handcyclist, and in the slow race?

I'm fairly sure I lapped Howard once, and only once

Which tag numbers failed?
I replaced some batteries of the tags that failed during my 'in-garden' endurance testing. I'm fairly convinced that the problems are battery related ......but a number cross-reference will confirm (or otherwise) this.
I'll order some more new batteries anyway, but lets check before purchase!
Thanks to Adrian, Claire, Anne & John (plus all who helped) for a great weekends racing ......I had a blast....I haven't enjoyed my racing so much in quite a while

Derrick - The tags that we couldn't download from, we didn't put back in their slots.  Instead, they're loose in the recess in the other half of the case.

We were using more or less the same set of tags at Preston, i.e. issued sequentially from 1.  All tags downloaded at Preston, and all showed Low Battery=N.

Okay, as Custodian of Thee Tags, I can tell you that the ones loose in the box are Nos 18, 25, 26, 27, 32, 33 and 34.

What are the chances of two lots of three consecutive numbers? Not random I guess.

On closer inspection it looks like six confirmed failures: 25, 26, 27, 32, 33 and 34. A few others may have been genuine DNSs that I need to investigate. Odd that it's two runs of three consecutive numbers?

Giovanni was indeed on a handcycle and left before the second slow race...
I think Graydog rode Sarah's bike in the second fast race... did he change the tag??

Pretty sure that there were at least two genuine DNS's for the second round - Giovanni and Simon Sanderson

Graydog did ride the Yellow Midget in the second round

Yup, I don't have data from tags 18 or 6. Tag 18 was issued to Ian Perry but it looks like 6 might not have been used at all. So, no results for Ian either.

Ian had a camera on Wobbly Bob at least some of the time I think... He knows our timing system well... Wink

We did not use no 6 at Lancaster as we were told it was dodgy at Preston. There were three who did not compete in race 2 and are on the spreadsheet as DNS.

haven't had time to look in detail at video, but i have got both races at Lancaster, however, my positions (O) were third in first race (i think) and fourth in second.  MF i won both.  Doesn't really matter to me about times, but i could look at video's tonight or tomorrow and get them to at worst 1 second resolution.  By the way the tag must have failed in the race as i checked it before i started first race.

Posted By: Adrian Setter
Date Posted: 31 July 2012 at 6:58pm
Andrew (Lancaster) and I (Preston) are doing our best to deliver the results.  It's looking as if on both days some of the tags had one internal time and others a different time (at least they weren't all randomly different!).  We need to work out quite what happened and, having understood it, undertake some jiggling of the data to produce some reasonable results.

Please bear with us.

I've posted the Preston TT results.  The tag issues don't affect that because your time is just the difference between times recorded by your tag, and synchronisation or lack of it with other tags doesn't matter.

Simon Hadden Sanderson told me he was only going to do one race at lancaster.

I belive I used tag 6 at Preston, Someone at lancaster said I had come last at preston thus suspected the tag of being dodgey so when they tried to give me tag 6 again at lancaster I requested a diffrent one.

I was with NeilF and JohnL for some of the Lanc fast race 1 then I was dropped and I dropped JohnL.  Maybe not in that order.  Not sure about lappages either.
