I see on the http://www.whpva.org/" rel="nofollow - WHPVA web site a date and location for the 2013 Worlds:
The venue for the HPV World Championship 2013 has also been fixed. HPV Deutschland e. V. has decided to host this at Leer, Germany on 21. - 23. June 2013. http://www.hpv.org" rel="nofollow - www.hpv.org
For an event in Germany, it's about as close as you could get to us, too: about a http://www.bing.com/maps/?v=2&cp=51.82486033449089~7.511137425899506&lvl=6&dir=0&sty=r&eo=0&rtp=pos.51.922852_4.478460_Rotterdam%2C%20Netherlands___e_~pos.53.237511_7.461764_Leer%2C%20NI%2C%20Germany___e_&mode=D&rtop=0~0~0~&form=LMLTCC" rel="nofollow - 190-mile drive from Rotterdam.

After watching David Hembrow's video of the 2009 event, I think I fancy a trip to Leer, although the 100km event might be a touch tough for this 'ole pensioner. But, Ian P. you must go - have a look at the videos at: http://www.aviewfromthecyclepath.com/2009/08/leer-european-championships.html and tot up the number of straw bales you could take out each lap!

Using googles new "bicycling" (that's us on three wheels out then) directions, it comes in at 340km 210Miles to the closest border crossing to Leer from europort, plus another 30km/20miles or so into Germany.. Or according to google 18hrs which sounds quick until you think that's 12mph which is about right using the Dutch networks. :D
Doable in one long day, although racing the day after may be a bit hard work.

What's this, what's this ..... about this dastardly plot to stop famous Cornishman and current Junior World HPV Champion, Tim Parker retaining his title?
If true, we should withdraw our Ambassador immediately, stop buying German beer or ask our Secretary to 'do something! That'll sort 'em

Can't rely on him for anything... Seriously... Does anybody know if this is likely to be an issue?? If so we really should make our feelings known... We have several quick fully faired juniors - As well as Tm, Sarah will still just be a junior next year and was going frighteningly fast in the Yellow Donkey... and Jack has also been going well in the Paul Davies machine that I failed miserably to ride with the lid on... Anybody know if he will still be a junior in 2013??

Is there a rule from the WPVA saying that junios cannot be FF? If not then i don't see how they can stop you, or any other junior taking part. But if you planning on attending and they do say something I'm sure there will be a lot of vocal UK [eople lobbying on your behalf!

Greetings all, I want to go to this event, for the first time. Has anyone researched routes, accomodation etc. I am driving from South Oxfordshire and google maps keeps sending me to Dover with a long drive at the other end, what is the best crossing? Is there camping or is it B&B or whatever? Any advice for a newbie to the World Championships would be gratefully receievd. Cheers Stuart

Stuart, Dover is the cheapest ferry crossing, if you're driving from the south then its the shortest as well. It's also quicker as it's not an overnight crossing which most of the others are, however you can get snared up in traffic around antwerp.
Newcastle Imjuden (near amsterdam) would be the shortest amount of driving the other side, and the Major A roads are pretty quiet once you're past Amsterdam.
From where you are the Harwich/Hook ferry may be easiest, not sure how sensible their prices are now, as it gets you past most of the busier bits of belgium and southern netherlands. From there its easy to head up to zwolle and across to leer.
I'm not going to the worlds now, as I've committed to other stuff, but am planning on riding to cyclevision the week after. I usually go via hull/rotterdam as it's quickest/easiest/shortest ride this side then a different route every year to CV :D

even quicker and sometimes cheaper is Eurotunnel, i've done it from the Dronten in the Netherlands to the East Midlands in 11hrs. As Fards said in the morning especially around Antwerp traffic can be hellish, i was caught in traffic going out there once, although second time i let the Sat Nav take me on re-route through the countryside which was nice! Probably added 30km, but knowing how long i was stuck in traffic (3hrs to do about 20km) i'm sure it was actually better. Have you thought about public transport and getting a cheap flight?

Thanks for these replies. I want to go by car as my son and I want to do a roadtrip together, and I am getting another car in June. Also don't fancy trying to squeeze a Kingcycle on Easyjet! I have looked and from Didcot (S Oxon) Harwich looks better. Its about the same distance as Dover but saves 150 miles on the other side. It cost about £83 each way so do-able. Has anyone who is going sorted accomodation yet? Camping is favourite for us if its nearby. Also when do registrations open? Thanks again Stuart

Good news for BHPC - we got:
2nd overall (Steve Slade) 1st Junior (Tim Parker) 1st Veteran (Mike Burrows)
Not bad given that we only had 5-6 who competed in all events.
Expect some more 'competitive' racing in future though. We now know what it's like to race in a field of 130 on twisty city streets, a good bit of which was single-lane - in a word, scary .
There's some video of the 100km race on Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYFNlMOlG8k" rel="nofollow - here .

Having watched that bit a few times, I think Slash was left with no place to go and had to stop before having time to deploy the training wheels. I was trying to work out what happened to the guy that crashed (on the tail-faired low racer). I think he took the corner too tight, lost the back end and then it caught again and he high-sided, throwing him up into the air and across the track. The velomobile went to his inside, leaving Slash, who was on the outside, with his path blocked.

Pity I broke the quest(fixed by the vm.nl guys again for free!) Lee also rolled his Milan (both these on some evil cobbles while out on the social rode) And then my face (swelling has finally gone down, although looking at the videos of Sunday's race I suspect tripping my nuts off on anti histemenes might have done me some good)! Denise and J arrived after a trip of epic proportions late Sat then she raced!

As ever Jeff got it right. It was the best option for me and the other rider. The bystanders lifted me up and pushed me off pronto, I didn't lose any positions. The rain meant that Ymte got passed me before my off and I could not risk it in the corners which is how I got passed him before the rain. There were a couple of other near misses, but a third was the best any two wheeler could do and I should know, as I was there. Many thanks to all and a big(man) kiss for Fards who fixed the training wheels with some 5 min glue.

I must admit - I do think our points system is better - you can quibble about the weighting between events but ... 6 points different in the final score with 1st and 3rds and 1st and 3rd in all! Ymte came 2nd in the two long races but 8th in the 200m and is them way back! Seems crazy! (Though I know it is simple to do). And if anyone thinks I am singing my own praises - I didn't come up with the points scheme! (and I think the weighting between events was someone else as well!) I just think it is better and fairer!
