Just a quick update on young George...
Barney says that George is being kept in for a second night as the plaster technician doesn't work on Sundays....
Poor little chap. It's a real shame as he has been really keen this year.
Has anyone ever won Best Newcomer and Unfortunate Scotsman in the same year before??
I'm sure you'll all join me in wishing George a speedy recovery and Barney the chance to go home soon!!!
All the best chaps...

Ok first chance to sit down and do a proper update and to once again reiterate all thanks of support he/we have had.

It turns out George has a spiral fracture of lower right tib.

He'd ridden off the left hand edge of the tarmac as the field went past and then riding parallel to the track tried to remount the edge I think a case of too much caution taking him off the edge followed by too much confidence trying to get back onto the track and the bike had fallen to the right, without cleats to secure his foot he'd then put / fallen his foot down between the fork and road as the bike fell.

From leaving the track at around 2pm we were transferred by the ambulance to A&E at Bodelwydden where George had been drugged, manipulated (under influence of ketamine) and plastered with a back slab all by 4pm and had come down off the ketamine by 4.30pm Saturday.

Unfortunatley the whole process then turned into quite a long wait to see the Ortho consultant, get check X-rays, let swelling subside, wait till Monday morning for a plaster technician to make the back slab up to a full plaster, then physio to teach to use crutches and finally Ortho consultant to sign off and do transfer letter so we eventually left hospital at around 7.30 Tuesday night.

The use of crutches is improving and he had a full 12 hours of good sleep last night, more than the total either of us had during the 3 previous nights.  Now to resolve issues like school, decide which items of clothing to sacrifice and try to wean him off the 3 days of continuously watching Dave, ITV4, 5* and all other TV channels which he had on tap in his semi private 2 bed ward.

For those interested in coincidence Sunday afternoon we met one of the junior roadies who on the return from their club ride stopped on to watch us.  He'd gone mountain biking on Sunday and managed to badly smash his wrist so shared the room with George on Sunday night waiting for his surgery on Monday morning.

Best wishes to all who helped out and may thanks for the supportive comments.  I would have been going to Hog Hill but won't now, hopefully I'll make to Hillingdon (maybe only as a spectator / assistant to organisators).

See you all soon.

Barney
