There isn't currently anyone down for organising at Hog Hill so please make yourself known, either here or to Alan, if you'd like to do it. The laptop is set up ready to go and should be with Geoff and Fiona by then.
I'm not planning to be there so do have a lovely time.

Geoff and Fiona said they would organise. Pretty sure I'm going there instead of Mildenhall now so I'll be happy to help...

Yep, we're organising, hence having the kit. Someone will have to take it off us at Hog Hill though, cos we're not going to Fowlmead.

It isn't sounding like many people are going to Fowlmead so far...

I am happy to be first aider for Hog Hill. I was also planning to go to Fowlmead for the weekend, is it still on? It clashes with the Moulton weekend which is pre book only so I would appreciate notice if its going to be cancelled so I can go there instead. Regards Stuart

Many thanks!! Fowlmead is very much still on... The date was moved a week to avoid a clash with the Silverstone 24 hour (which has now been cancelled!!!)

By the way Stuart (tincanracer), I've just noticed you were in the "Visitors" group on here - I've changed you to "BHPC Member" as I know you are a club member... You should now be able to see the member's areas of the forum (you may need to log out and in again...) If anybody else thinks they don't have appropriate access please shout... Chances of me noticing are pretty slim!

I'm tempted to say four ten minute races - that would be fun (but not for the organisers though). 30 minutes in each direction worked well last time, so lets go with that.
We can follow it with a race to Aberdeen and back, for those who like longer races - just send me your GPS data when you get back and I'll tell you who won. No points - just for fun.

What time is registration closing? I Have to drop off one of the kids at Luton airport first and will struggle to get there before 10.45.

It will close at 11:44 sharp... Need confirmation from the organisers but I think if we know you're definitely coming we could put you on the sheet before you get there... What is your race number and what machine will you be riding Sam??

We'd ideally like to get registration done by around 11am. Registration will be in the clubhouse, so PLEASE REGISTER BEFORE WANDERING OFF DOWN TO THE TRACK. I thank you.

May be worth allowing a little more time for travelling if possible - Some roads in Essex were flooded today apparently and it's still widdling down here in Hemel Hempstead at the moment...

Thoroughly enjoyed the racing today. Thanks to all who organised it. The wife, who timed me in the last race, stuffed a stopwatch in her bag when picking all her stuff up off the grass. Can someone let me know who to send this to, or can it wait until Fowlmead ?
Thanks.

No problem Rd - If you can bring it along to Fowlmead that will be great... Many thanks to Geoff and Fiona... for the organising. The weather behaved itself in the end. I clearly need to fall over at the start more often...

The average speeds all look a little low on the results... We have the circuit length listed as 1.0KM - My GPS says 0.7 miles... Anybody got any better ideas??

Anybody got any better ideas?? | The centre list the bottom track as 1.15km (0.715miles) on their http://www.vision-rcl.org.uk/redbridgetrack.html" rel="nofollow - track layouts page . My cycle comp made it 1.13km last year so 1.15km this year is probably about right, allowing for the expansion of space-time since then.

She was great fun Sam... I reckon you should hook up another half a dozen to your bike - It would save all that pedalling...

I definitely have a yellow pump and chair cover in my possession. The chair cover has made an ideal quiver for the flags.

I have done 18 laps in second race, but probably you should
discount the last one, as Slash has passed me just before finish line. I finish
behind Stuart, so in the second race I should have 17 laps.
The speeds published are pretty low compare to what I have.
The lap distance is 0.72miles according to my GPS.

Thanks for finishing off the results Alan and thanks to Glynn, John R., Slash and Twed for helping out with organisating duties.
Thought the flags already had a quiver Leo? Many thanks for picking up the pump. Would you be able to deliver it to a Twed at Fowlmead by any chance? Would be much appreciated.

However the rims have been accelerated by a greater amount over the year than the Hog Hill track so you must take account of relativistic effects .
This also accounts for the apparent effect of Mike Burrows travelling faster this year than last year which is, of course, a nonsense.

True Geoff, but the chair cover has a handy strap to sling it over the shoulder too.
Everything I took off the track that isn't mine will be at Fowlmead.

That switchblade bike certainly looks unusual but I'm not convinced by it myself. I consider my Fujin SL II to be a good climber, I was in the top 10% on the KOM stage of the Etape Caledonia up the Schiehallion climb. That hill is 1:6 at it's steepest and I was passing roadies even on the steep part. I find it hard to believe a 17kg bike would climb faster than my 9kg fujin.

You could be right Lee, and the issue of low speed stability can be solved by correct steering geometry, especially a steep steering head. Yes, I know some people disagree with that statement! I'm told Mark was going well at Redbridge, but I have no idea how strong he is. What we need is scientific data, for all else is conjecture.

For those in control of such things, can I suggest a double-check of the Championship standings on the website? I've just looked and Twed appears to have scored no points at all (in any class) at Hog Hill.
Even though it shows me now leading Sports class it doesn't seem fair....

Ah, that's my fault - Derrick was complaining about his name being spelt wrong and there being no 'e' on the end of Hurrican, so I said, don't worry, it's all referenced to the race number (or so I'd been told), not the name, so I'll change it. I was only trying to be helpful...

Hi Folks
having seen the switchblade bike vids it is an interesting concept what size are the wheels and does the gearing compensate for the small wheels judging by the results it sounds pretty nippy a bit tricky to row and pedal together I get confused just pedaling is it available to buy and if so at what price does it come in at , congrats to everyone on the racing take care .

| Psst....I wasn't complaining......it has been like that for many seasons....it just came out as someone else had noticed it.
If I was to complain, then it might be that Mark Chillery's bike is very unusual in that it converts from a high position to a low rider position. I would question its class of ST and SP. I know this as Leo & I followed him around a good head+ above him .....and I rode the bike. Also I am happy to be corrected ....but was Diego on the flux in race 2? ....if it was then it was very low & long. I realise I may be too late with this ....but just managed to find time to read stuff. Cest la vie.

An unusual bike at a BHPC event??? I guess this should be referred to the Competition Secretary... The seat height rule was removed from Sports Class a while back though and Mark does ride the machine on the road I believe... Two further classes serve to provide an entry-level competition for riders who do not (yet) posess an out-and-out racing machine, and to promote the development of road-going machines with fairings. These classes do not have strict technical specifications. Eligibility will be determined principally by the competitors or, if arbitration is required by the Competition Secretary Sports This class is for unfaired bicycles that are suitable for use on the open road. Tail boxes are permitted, if they are practical luggage-carriers. Typical examples include: Kingcycle (without nose cone), Challenge Hurricane, Challenge Mistral, Burrows Ratcatcher. | | | | | | | | | Street Also for bicycles suitable for use on the open road, but front and tail fairings are allowed (side fairings and "bags" are not considered suitable for road use and are disallowed). Examples: Kingcycle with nosecone, Challenge Mistral with Zzipper fairing, Geoff Bird T7. Sports-class bikes are also eligible for Street. | | | |

I guess a varying seat height may test race classification
logic but one objective of the Switchblade design was to make it easy to ride
on the road. Even if seat height influences the Class of the bike, which
seat height is relevant? Perhaps the default (high) position; or perhaps the
one used on the track the most, which is of course, the lower position: interesting.
I noticed that Alan's bike is considered a race machine whereas Diego's (in the
second race) was not, even though they both seemed like definitive race
machines. It’s not the tail fairing that makes Alan's a race machine, is it?
Irrespective of what class my bike is deemed to be, I would like to understand
that distinction. Hope to see you all again soon.

Jeff,
currently 20" wheels front and back. It’s based on compact low racer
format (I think that's what they call them) although most of these now seem to
go for a larger rear wheel. I anticipate 24" front, 26 or 700c back
for next version. Front wheel drive is slightly
more manageable with a higher seat so that will probably stay. I’m only just starting to think about a route
to production. Perhaps first step is establishing if there is a market: there
might be!

Diego switched bikes between the two races... Only the bike he used in the first race was a "Sports Class" machine... He shouldn't really have been in Sports or Street overall to be honest as you get points for only the highest class of machine you use on the day... My opinion is that your machine is fine in Sports as it fits into the spirit of the class perfectly... My Ratracer is very much a race bike with very little steering lock, although there are people who regularly ride them on the road and even tour on them!! Not me though... I mostly ride a Kingcycle on the road...
