Does anyone know anywhere on the inter-web where I can find cycle components for free drawn in 3D?
Cranks, front/rear mech, that kind of thing...
Can't believe there isn't a share site somewhere? if I had to guess its where the students that pester me to do their projects haven't robbed them from?

I'd like to end up with a full machine CAD'd up, big enough task just doing all the non standard stuff.

Regards
Karl

A quick search found this: http://grabcad.com/library/tag/bicycle" rel="nofollow - http://grabcad.com/library/tag/bicycle
and this: http://www.3dcadbrowser.com/3dmodels.aspx?word=bicycle" rel="nofollow - http://www.3dcadbrowser.com/3dmodels.aspx?word=bicycle

Looks like you have to pay for most of it though  Cry

I look forward to finding out more (as long as it doesn't involve looking at a CAD screen - I'm doing that 10 hours a day, 6 days a week at the moment!

I had an email conversation with someone at one of the MTB manufacturers who had done a demo exercise for PTC which has 3D models of Shimano kit & asked whether the models were available. The answer was a resounding no, the CAD files were loaned under supervision for the demo, I think they weren't even allowed on the company's computers to avoid any risk of copy. I should imagine that SRAM & Campagnolo are similarly tight so you only hope would be to start modelling...

You could always try software that uses photos to generate 3D, I've heard good words about Autodesk's 123D ( http://www.123dapp.com/catch" rel="nofollow - http://www.123dapp.com/catch ) though I've not had the time to try it out.

Karl,
I have a lot of CAD components for the bike/trike which I build my self and few parts which I manage to download. The files which I managed to find on the internet are not editable, so at the end if you want to make changes they are useless. I am using Autodesk Inventor and I can build/design any part you want with exact dimensions you like. So if you need help I volunteer to do the model parts if you need, just send me a message.

Thanks guys, a lot of really nice offers, I've charged a company in doing a lot of the leg work for the frame and Windcheetah specific parts, its just the filler components that are needed rear mech, chainsets etc, we have some that will 'do' but if time and money allows I'll get them to draw up other components that can be edited.

I'll distribute accordingly through the club for any member wishing to let their imagination run wild.

Karl
