Hi Alan,
The Michigan Human Powered Vehicle Association is conducting its 30th annual Michigan HPV Rally May 17-18, so we're hoping to make the occasion somewhat special. It is the oldest racing event for human powered vehicles in North America and if one considers what was the International HP Speed Championships/World HPV Championship as one continuous event, the Michigan event may be the second oldest in the world. So if any BHPC members are interested in checking out the HPV scene on this side of Atlantic, this year's Michigan rally would be a good opportunity. LaidBack Cyclist issue 105 included an article I wrote about the Michigan rally and HPV racing in the United States, so if anyone in the U.K. is interested in attending, the article will give them an idea of what it's like. There's lots of information about past rallies at http://mhpva.blogspot.com. Information about this year's rally hasn't been posted yet, but soon will be. If anyone from the U.K. wants to come and race, but can't afford the expense of shipping their HPV, I strongly suspect we can find one he or she can borrow on which to race. So if you could "spread the word" about the Michigan rally to anyone who might be interested, I would appreciate it. Something could be published in the next LaidBack Cyclist issue, but that might be too late for someone seeing it to then make travel arrangements. Anyone who is interested can contact me and I'll do what I can to make whatever arrangements are necessary here in Michigan.
Thanks, Mike Eliasohn, MHPVA co-founder, vice president and blog editor; BHPC member
