Is this definately on this year or are we going to be bounced again?

I was in touch with Cyclopark most recently in May, when they said:
As far as the booking goes it’s all down as per the booking form 10-4pm on the 27th July so no problems.
so I'm reasonably confident it'll work this time.
We still need volunteers to organise for both Fowlmead and Gravesend. Both circuits are suitable for a long (2-hourish) race, since we don't have Castle Combe this year. Gravesend also has a lot of interesting options for different circuit layouts and we have the entire track booked so any can be used.

AS Alan says elsewhere - WE STILL HAVE NOBODY TO ORGANISE THIS EVENT. Volunteers please.

I'm sure Mr Nobody will do a cracking job .
Bit daunting volunteering to organise at somewhere we haven't been before, we don't even know if parking is ok, what facilities will be available e.g. somewhere to set up laptop to sign on, or any other details for that matter.
As for race formats, i don't know how that can be decided until the track has been assessed, which i guess will take half an hour at least of cycling around all tracks in both directions.

Thanks for not volunteering AND putting everyone else off Ian
I'm sure there will be people on hand willing to give advice and assistance.

What we know:
- There is a room booked for sign-on.
- We have the entire road circuit booked. A plan of the layout and the lengths of the six possible circuits (400m to 2.5km) are on the Cyclopark website (link on the http://www.bhpc.org.uk/1events.aspx#Races" rel="nofollow - BHPC website ):
http://www.cyclopark.com/activities-prices/cyclocircuit/" rel="nofollow - http://www.cyclopark.com/activities-prices/cyclocircuit/ - From the aerial photo (on the https://www.facebook.com/events/394679924008021/?ref=4" rel="nofollow - Facebook page ) it looks pretty flat.
- Most of us will have done a http://forum.bhpc.org.uk/forum_posts.asp?TID=5002&PID=49918&title=2014-fowlmead-26th-july#49918" rel="nofollow - 1½ hr race the day before so anything longer than 45 minutes isn't likely to go down well.

I will be at Fowlmed on Saturday, so we can discuss and sort things out. I will need a lot of help.

Many thanks John .
As Competition Sec I suppose I am Organiser of Last Resort, otherwise the events that I've booked don't take place and there is no Competition to be Sec of.
While this doesn't mean I'm happy to organise more than my fair share of events (one or two a year) I will help to train others how to do it, with the aim of increasing the pool of organisers for the future.
In this spirit I will supervise Gravesend and help John, and anyone else who wants to, organise the event. There is still time, right up to Sunday morning, for someone else to do it - just say the word.
Since it is in the gift of the Organiser to decide on the programme of races this probably won't be announced until the day. All you know is that racing will start at around 11:00am and there will be 2-3 races each of varying lengths.

I am not sure that you will agree with this, but I would propose that people who come on Saturday to Fowlmead and know they are coming to Gravesend on Sunday, sign on also for the Gravesend race on Saturday. We can prepare a separate sign on sheets and people can pay as well.

I think the issue will be having the spreadsheet - As I understand it, they need to be created in sequence as the points tables accumulate, but I suppose it wouldn't stop you taking the money and getting the sign on sheets filled in. By the way Andrew, where can I get the latest pre-filled-in sign on sheets, or even a blank one as a MS document/pdf?

I've sent you a PM, Geoff.
Signing-on for the weekend sounds like a good time-saver but you would still need to make sure people were entered correctly in the sign-on program. As Geoff says, the program is cumulative so the sign-on for Gravesend can't be done until the results from Fowlmead are entered.
In fact, the list of racers isn't actually deleted when a new race is set up, so the sign-on for Gravesend initially has all the racers from Fowlmead in it. However if you think of all missing people, extra people, changes to bikes, classes, etc it's much more reliable to start with a clean sheet and enter people in afresh. As you know from the post-race quibbling, it's important to get racer's details right, and it's much easier to do this is at sign-on rather than sort out the mess afterwards.

I definitely won't be at Fowlmead due to work and a bit of a miscalculation... Speedie's new 451 front wheels are going to need the frame re-positioning in the shell and its currently looking like the new position will mean I can't turn the pedals... To quote Mr H. Simpson of the Parish of Springfield... "D'oh"
Still not sure about Gravesend yet... Would be really nice to see the new track.
Have fun folks!!

Results for Gravesend will be posted this evening. My apologies for the interminable delay but
- it's a long way home from Kent
- it was the final stage of Le Tour (la grande arrivée?) on TV
- I'm an idle waster
However to keep you occupied, here's a quiz: - What was the length of the circuit we used for the time-trial circuit?
- What was the length of the circuit we used for the main race?
My cycle comp wasn't working because I was using a spare wheel and I forgot to ask anyone else to measure the tracks. Cyclopark give nominal lengths for some of the possible circuits but don't say what they are.

I almost forgot: many thanks to John Lucian and Neil Fleming for stepping in and organising splendidly. As a new track there were a lot of unknowns that had to be sorted out on the fly and they did brilliantly to make it a great day.

Yes, many thanks to John and Neil for a well-organised event.
The new track was a sobering reminder that recumbents aren't so fast when ridden by old men up loooong hills!
Nice photos Dave. I guess you would have taken more of the slow race if I hadn't press-ganged you into timing me instead.

According to my Strava (yes guilty of using it)
Whole outside of track 1.6miles Time trial 0.7miles/lap The bit we used for the 40min race 1.3miles/lap
I could be wrong and would like someone else to verify??
Thank you to all who helped with a thoroughly good weekends racing :-)

Andrew, My Garmin Recording shows for the long race lap distances between 1.45 to 1.48 miles; it depends on what path I used for the corners. On average the distance was 1.4636. Maybe it will be good if somebody else can also provide a distance to confirm my data. I forgot to time my time trial, so I have no distance for that, but the Cyclopark site indicate 1.15km.

NB: The only change I've made from the original sign-on sheets and results is to make Andy Forey O/P/U instead of O/P/U/St/S. I'm pretty sure Andy's Festina is too low for Sports class, but if anyone wants to quibble....?

| Yes, your laps should be shorter as you cut the corners. I took the fast tight corners very wide. Looking at the front tires today, I realised that I grind them half way. Just happy that the race at Gravesend did not last longer.

Looking at the front tires today, I realised that I grind them half way. Just happy that the race at Gravesend did not last longer. | How about a tilting faired trike as a winter project? You could have Mft class all to yourself.

Hmm... not sure about that but it's almost certainly (a) not a Festina ( https://flic.kr/p/ouaP2W" rel="nofollow - https://flic.kr/p/ouaP2W ) and (b) not what he was riding at Fowlmead.
Fess up Andy - tell us what you were riding at Fowlmead and Gravesend and I'll get your classes right.

Andy had a puncture during the race at Fowlmead and switched to Fiona's bike. At Gravesend, the same tyre went down again, so he started the 40 min race on Fiona's bike. I think he did the TT on his own bike, but I'm not sure. As Fiona's bike has a tail-fairing, he shouldn't get unfaired points.

Why is Larrington always right about everything?? What's more, in 10 years time you could ask him what bike Andy was riding at Gravesend in 2014 and he'd still be right.

Are you suggesting Nick that it has been deemed that the purpose of The Second Coming is to enlighten the world to the benefits of recumbent cycles?!

| So that's why it says 'Devine' (sp?) underneath his Badger-Badger-Badger icon.
