Hi All, As many people will know the York Cycle Rally will return for 2015, over the weekend of 20th/21st June
http://www.yorkrally.org/" rel="nofollow - http://www.yorkrally.org/
I know this is a long way off, but it would be good to have a BHPC presence there...
If that is going to happen we will need people willing to organise stuff and man a stand there over the weekend...
Anybody interested??

If you book your camping pitch before the 20th December it will be cheaper...
Just booked mine. Hope to see a good BHPC turnout there...

I see Cyclevision is on the same weekend http://www.ligfiets.net/commissie/cyclevision.html That may stop a few people turning up.

I'm still going to York, If I have an overseas ride next year it will probably be to the Worlds in Belgium, I think as a club we should be promoting that rather than CV at least in return to Rudi, Eric etc who've come over to the UK to race.
Plus, reading the race report about CV in 2014 and in particular Venray race track it wasn't the most interesting of venues to go round in circles at.

I agree... Especially as CV cashes with York and as a club we've already taken the decision to have a stand there...

We are also planning to do York and Belgium... The Sparenberg's
Venray was particularly boring... although a lot of fun, and an experience I wont forget.

I'm planning to go to York this year just for one day but the nearest I will get to Belgium is this box of chocolates I had for Christmas, very nice though and a lot less effort.

York has many cycling routes, there is a cycle route from the Knavesmire to the Sports Village, see attached link. Most of the route is car free.

Is it wise to have one of the fastest forms of HPV riding with the two slowest? It is contrary to how we normally race.
I think i will re-assess whether i think the risk to me is low enough to be worth it.

I just want to be on track with riders that don't change line I expect I'll be going round at 40+mph and can't just change line, looking forward to a good weekend.

My thinking, based on our own distant experience of indoor velodromes and watching Belgian races, is that multitrack machines use banked tracks very differently from two-wheelers. Bikes, at least fast ones, tend to use more of the track as they climb the banking and swoop down onto the straights whereas VMs tend to circle round in a narrow band. Slow riders also follow a narrow track round the inside. Ideally we would want three races, fast, slow and multitrack but there isn't time for that hence my compromise of putting slow and multitrack together.
However I'm very happy to take advice from VM riders and possibly change the format if safety is thought to be a problem.

Thanks Andrew, having never "done" the 250m wall of death I will bow to your knowledge, although seeing Daniel Fenn doing 40mph and swooping up and down i don't think all VM's do that, but he's mad!
I think a safety briefing along the lines of "keep your line" should suffice.

Sign-on
for the races will start at 11:45 outside the velodrome and finish at
12:00 noon SHARP! No race entries will be accepted after 12:00 although
you will still be able to enter the non-BHPC races after 1:00pm.
Those planning to go to the velodrome can either join the escorted convoy leaving Knavesmire (the main Rally site) at 11:15 or make their own way there - the velodrome is at http://www.york.ac.uk/univ/sports/village/" rel="nofollow - York Sport Village , YO10 5FG.

I'd be grateful for any assistance with running our event at the velodrome. If you will be at York but not manning the stand or planning to ride the ring then please find me at or near the BHPC stand on Saturday.
Help with registration, timing and generally ordering people about would be most appreciated.

Barney has an A Level in ordering people about and would save the cost of a megaphone...

I'll be at York and can be cajoled into acting as human megaphone at the velodrome if required or happy to man the stand while people go over there. Due to complications I'm going to miss another weekend of racing this weekend but will give Alan a call to make sure we've got things in hand for next weekend. Barney

Again, thanks to the organisers for making this happen - great to experience a steeply banked outdoor velodrome, even if it turned out not to be that fast.

Great to see everybody and good fun on the campsite in the evenings... The stand seemed to be popular all day on yesterday - I hope it was the same today. Wicked race between Ian and Jack on the velodrome this afternoon... My fuelling cock-up made it a very expensive weekend unfortunately and I'm back down to earth with a bump as I'm working tonight! Hoping to see some of you at Shenington next weekend!

Some good photo's there Russ and Jeff, then there are ones of me! I can't wait for my race cap to arrive.
Thoroughly enjoyed the weekend, the velodrome despite making me feel was so good I stopped and went round quite a few more times after you lot went away, then i had to do a few more for a photo shoot!
Actually one of the highlights was cycling home afterwards when I became entangled in the Isle of Axholme vintage and veteran tractor rally ( I like tractors), i took a break, had a good feed and watched roughly 30 old belching and farting tractors trundle by.
I got home about 6:45pm, with sore legs and a sunburnt bonce, so I now look a little bit like this chappy =>
PS i'd forgotten what fun racing is !

Thanks to all who (in no particular order): - transported the marquee/table/publicity stands,
- put it all up,
- manned the stand to sell stuff and talk endlessly about Guy Martin(!),
- organised the velodrome races,
- took part in the velodrome races,
- stayed around to help dismantle the marquee,
- and transported the marquee and banners away.
You know who you are but special mention to Barney Harle, Neil Hood and Andrew Sidwell.

Here are the official results of the velodrome races at York Rally, each 15 mins + 1 lap: Race 1 (unfaired):
1st Russell Bridge 24.94 mph 2nd Simon Watson 21.51 mph 3rd Jeff James
Race 2 (faired):
1st Jack Watson 29.85 mph 2nd Ian Perry 29.68 mph 3rd Brian Robertson 29.56 26.56 mph
Apologies for the absence of a time for Jeff owing to technical failure
(OK, we forgot to start the watch). Many thanks to all who took part,
especially Team Watson who provided 30% of the competitors and took away
33% of the prizes. Special thanks also to the organising team of Alan and Barney without whom none of it would have happened. Barney's ding-a-ling was the star event of the weekend.

Thankfully Barney refrained from getting his ding-a-ling out on the campsite but there were some other entertaining noises from his pitch...

I know it doesn't make one iota of difference, and it isn't important; but, Brian's speed is way too high, I lapped him numerous times.

Would definitely agree my GPS puts the speed somewhere between 26 and 27 mph
Ian I don't know where you get all that energy from after the race to: mate with the race organizer, cycle home 140 miles, AND you are getting a race cap for even more speed.
Thanks to all for a great day.
