Hi, question from a newbie. The race info says race numbers are given during race sign on. I didn't notice anything going through the shop order, but I've already got 213 on my velo from Andy, the previous owner. Could that be used if not already allocated?

See you in a couple of weeks.

Cheers, Tim.

Hi Tim,
People generally keep their same number as long as they race at least once a year so it will depend on whether Andy intends to race and if he wants to keep that number.
If not then there shouldn’t be a problem with you having it - Kim usually sorts all the numbers once registration closes.
Look forward to seeing you at Colchester!
Alan

*tapity-tap* flyinerin raced as 213 last year, so she's got dibs, I'm afraid.

The shop doesn't ask new riders about their race number, on the assumption they haven't got one.

Allocating new race numbers is one of those tasks that's vastly less time-consuming when done as a batch, rather than in dribs and drabs as registrations come in, so I'll be doing that after registrations close (which may be sooner than the deadline if all the places fill up - we're currently at 36/60).

218 is also taken, but I could give you 273 if that makes modifying the existing number easier?

I like your thinking Kim! No worries I'll go with whatever comes out.

I was just being lazy 😃 213 is the s/n of the velo and had some relevance to Andy. I think when he raced it he had 145 applied too. Having read the guidelines think the numbers need to be at the front so whichever way I need to get creative with the insulating tape 😉

Thanks, Tim.

Due to an unfortunately timed house move I'm not going to be able to race Colchester but I am hoping to race with 213 for the remaining rounds.

Entries are now closed (final count: 54 registrations).

New riders (and existing riders who didn't know their race number) should have an email from me telling them what their race number is.  See http://www.bhpc.org.uk/how-to-race-with-bhpc.aspx" rel="nofollow - http://www.bhpc.org.uk/how-to-race-with-bhpc.aspx for how to display your race number.

If you're an existing rider who requested new timing tags, you won't have had an email, but rest assured you've also been added to my tag-writing list along with all the newbies.

We've got an impressive turnout from people on handcycles, and a number of new riders, so it looks like most of the regulars are going to end up in the 'fast' race.

Hi All,
Rob Womack has been talking to the folks at Colchester to clarify the parking situation:
On arrival we have to enter car registrations into a machine in the cafe.
However that only gives 4 hours free parking so we will need to remember to go back in and re-enter the reg again later in the day!

Okay, I've uploaded results from the electronic timing system at  http://www.bhpc.org.uk/Data/Sites/1/media/events/events22/01colchester/index.html" rel="nofollow - http://www.bhpc.org.uk/Data/Sites/1/media/events/events22/01colchester/index.html

Let me know if you see any issues.

The main problem at this point is the rubbish data due to lack of tag reads for William Tulett in the 40min fast race.  (He moved his tags to somewhere less blocked by carbon fibre for the second race.)  So if anyone can give us clues as to his lap count and finish position that would help tremendously.

There were many missed reads for the first couple of laps of the 40 minute slow race due to my own incompetence (I disabled the wrong antenna as a work-around for reading tags on the far side of the track), but the software has extrapolated sensible numbers, and I don't think anyone stopped during that time.

Otherwise, I'm pleased to report the shiny new timing laptop performed well, both in terms of responsiveness and ease of reading the screen (the old one was rather dim, which was troublesome in bright sunlight).  The extra computing power means we were able to use the integrated video-capture software (which grabs a couple of seconds of video centred on each tag read, indexed by race time and rider details so you don't have to spool through a tedious video of the whole race).  This has already allowed us to disambiguate two close finishes.

I'll do the points tables tomorrow.  I'm knackered!

Thanks Kim, and thanks to all for a great days racing, esp. John Williams in his lovely gulf-mclaren coloured snoek - mighty fast! I’d have had him on the line in the second race if it wasn’t for a Forey in the middle of the last corner - sorry if I came a bit close on the exit!

Thanks Kim, interesting to see the stats.

As mentioned on Facebook, sorry unfortunately I wasn't "car free". I won't be touring the circuits, so hope it doesn't impact results.

McLaren? Tchah! John Wyer's GT40s and 917s, more like And Alessandro Pesenti-Rossi's privateer Tyrrell 007 from 1976 if you want to be a completist…

I think Will would of been just behind me in the first race. I think I had lapped him a couple of times before I hand my incident and I lost about 4.30 according to the figures. He may of been just in front but I think he would of been on the same lap.

I'm glad my effort to create a GPX from a track with genuine racing times in it, so the dots speed up and slow down in the right places, is appreciated.

Done.  That's an easy change at this point, as I'll be regenerating the results to account for William's timings anyway.

That's a start.  I know I lapped him at least once, but I wasn't really paying attention.  (I spent most of that race trying to get back the two minutes I lost due to a mechanical on the first corner.)

Incidentally, I caught up with him towards the end of the second race and gave chase, on the basis that then I'd know where he finished, but he'd got faster and I couldn't keep up.  Thumbs Up

Rob Womack has messaged to say that Mark Howard finished just ahead of him in race 1 and I’m pretty sure that’s correct.

No tag read, annoyingly, but he's not visible in the video of Rob crossing the line, so I think the computer's estimate of 2.7 seconds ahead of Rob for the missing finish sounds about right.

By way of example, here's the sprint finish between me and Lars in the 40 minute race.  My tag read was about 5ms earlier (and both tag reads were about a bike-length before we reached the line), but the video allows us to see who crossed the line first.

New rule: daft old gets with flegs have to stand on the opposite side of the track from the Timelords' Lair.  I shall propose it at the AGM Wink

Okay, I've used the new video SCIENCE to fill in some missing lap times for William Tulett, by spotting him in the background of other people's passings[1].  This has given CrossMgr enough data to extrapolate reasonable lap times for the rest, though his final finish position is still undetermined (I think the computer's being unreasonably pessimistic for his final lap time, thobut).

Other changes also applied, and results-re-uploaded.

And I've generated the points table, which is at  http://www.bhpc.org.uk/Data/Sites/1/media/events/events22/01colchester/colchester.html" rel="nofollow - http://www.bhpc.org.uk/Data/Sites/1/media/events/events22/01colchester/colchester.html  (and the currently-identical season table is in the usual place).

(I'm assuming a 50% weighting for the two races.)

[1] At one point I spotted him on the far side of the track, and came perilously close to trying to be clever using maths, but fortunately he also appeared near the finish line about minute earlier.

Thanks Kim, tbh I think the car free entries may generally need validating ;-)

Thanks,

In principle lots of things need validating.  In practice, in the absence of anyone volunteering to be official bike inspector / car-park monitor, people can argue it out with CompSec if it looks like a something's seriously wrong.  :)

The car-free class is mostly a gentle nudge to encourage people to ride to more events.  And some extra ballast for David to fit in his banananana bags on the way home from the AGM.

Retrospective class-changes are pretty much inevitable, as people swap HPVs or remove fairings due to mechanical or logistics problems on the day.  We changed the way the software works a couple of years ago in a way that makes it simpler to do.
