The timetable for the racing at Stourport on Sunday can be found on the BHPC race day web page  http://www.bhpc.org.uk/race-day?fbclid=IwAR2RgKdhpYxaFnCSeZ7DyxN2NKEGBFQNJ7QWd4DkjoQ2Z-EVQ2FpafKeq5M" rel="nofollow - www.bhpc.org.uk/race-day

I shall be organising the racing. If anyone would like know a bit more about how to organise a race, you are welcome to shadow me on the day.

Also we always need help with bell ringing and flag waving so if you feel up to that just make yourself known to me in the timing tent. Heather

Well that was suboptimal, in more ways than one.

Well done to everyone for salvaging something from our non-booking.

If anyone has a GPX track of the hairpin time trial, I'd appreciate a copy so I can feed it to CrossMgr...

(Having now performed a proper arse-inspection it appears to be more haemotoma than abrasion, so hopefully it'll heal a bit more quickly than the last time I crashed the Baron.  As for the elbow, I'm really glad I was wearing elbow pads...)

Hopefully there's a gpx file attached to this post. I loaded my full race gpx into https://gpx.studio/" rel="nofollow - https://gpx.studio/ and cut the gpx track down to just the hairpin - hopefully this'll work OK.

Shocked Non-booking??? Did the venue let us down in a Bath a couple of years ago sort of way??

I'm afraid we were not booked on at Stourport today and an Armed forces biathlon talent spotting event had booked the track all day. After some very herlpful discussion with the Stourport manager and the Armed forces guys, who were so accommodating in allowing us to use some of their track time, we were able to get enough time on the whole circuit to run two 30 minute races and then we had some fun doing short time trials around the hsairpins.

Not an ideal day but hopefully those who weere there enjoyed it. Thanks to everyone for all the help and support for me and the the organisers I hoep you felt it was worth the travelling.

Okay, results are now up at https://www.bhpc.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/Events/2023/03/" rel="nofollow - https://www.bhpc.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/Events/2023/03/

With a points table for the event at https://www.bhpc.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/Events/2023/03/stourport.html" rel="nofollow - https://www.bhpc.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/Events/2023/03/stourport.html

And I've updated the overall championship table at  https://www.bhpc.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/Events/2023/BHPC_2023.html" rel="nofollow - https://www.bhpc.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/Events/2023/BHPC_2023.html

(Thanks for the GPX, Russell)

Points distribution is 70:30:0, with the clockwise time trial only being for fun, so getting nul points.

The only thing that's obviously dodgy is a missed tag read for Stuart Glen's Lap 9 in the 30min race, I don't think he stopped or anything, did he?

The time trial results suffer from person-with-two-watches issues.  I've gone with the times from the laptop in preference to the stopwatch, as the camera gives us frame-accurate finishes (but the start time is still down the the usual human error).

I haven't sanity-checked the arithmetic or anything; the merge process went smoothly, so I hope it's okay.  I'm going to take my bruises to bed and have another look at it tomorrow.

Ahhhhhhh Sh*t.
Realy sorry everyone. Please accept my grovelling apologies as that non-booking is totally my fault.
Just checked back through my emails They'd confirmed that date was available and I'd written them a reply email with completed booking form attached, but I evidently didnt hit th esend button as the message and booking form is still sitting in my Drafts email box....

Thank you Heather for saving the day - impressive diplomacy and negotiations with what on arrive looked an impossible situation. Thanks also Kim and Natalya and your helpers for such speedy setting up of scoring gear in two locations. The hairpin time trial was fun. Sorry for those who arrived late and missed out on their race.

Chris - all to easy to get caught out with unsent drafts of important comms. Been there, done that!

Youtube vid of yesterday's 30min fast race in Snoopy. Made using an app called DoubleTake on my iphone which records front and back cameras at the same time - I need to see if I can find a non-subscription version of it.
I forgot to swap out the power pedals yesterday morning, so there's no power & cadence data.
Thanks to everyone that made yesterday possible, great fun as always 🙂

Good morning,

I didn't stop at all and my lap times were mostly consistent, for me that's +or- 5 seconds. I did have a slow lap towards the end when I came across a helmetless rider on an elctric trike almost stationary at the hairpin and had to slow to avoid him and lost momentum going up the hill. Strava shows I did 9.44 miles, which is 11 laps and average speed of 15.7 if that helps. My tags are the original ones so over 5 years old, if it happens again I might need new ones next season.

Thanks to Heather, Kim et al who managed to rescue victory from the jaws of defeat and produce a good race. Sorry we left early but Rob's knee was playing up, and we decided that Bromptons are too twitchy for track racing! Made up for it with real ale and steam engines at the Severn Valley Railway.

Hope you all have a good season and see you again at Hillingdon in October.

Stuart

That confirms it then, just a missed read.  (It says something that we're now hunting down individual missed reads - a few years ago they'd have been unremarkable.  A combination of sorting out new timing tags in advance of the race, and Natalya's efforts to hunt down the people with dodgy tags has really improved matters.)

It's probably just the upright riding position - the RFID aerials are at a height optimised for recumbent riders, but yes, if it happens again some new tags might be in order.

Quote we decided that Bromptons are too twitchy for track racing!

On the couple of occasions I've done a lap on mine, I've concluded that Bromptons are too slow for track racing.  Although given what happened on the hairpin, that might not be such a bad thing...

Oh, has someone lost a pair of wheel supports, of the sort you'd use for the front wheels of a tadpole trike on a turbo trainer?  They were lying on the grass near the track entrance while we were packing up, so I grabbed them on the basis they probably belonged to one of us.  I'll bring them to the next race.

Thanks Kim that was me! I seem to leave something at every event at that venue. Last time Heather had to post my rain jacket to me 🤣.

Funnily enough, you were top of my list of likely suspects...

(I think it was partly Natalya's fault for parking her trike over them when we had to clear the track in a hurry.)

My lack of organisation is legendary. I can't believe my wife has allowed me to go to the World's in Austria by myself..probably end up in Australia

Thank you Kim for sorting the results for us. I come up again with an issue. Maybe it is my mistake but it looks like I did not get my points for the street class for Stourport. It is fine for other classes.

Looks like you entered as O/P/U for some reason.  That's easily fixed...

Done.

Stourport hairpin video from the fast race. Camera set up after both Dan and Kim had come off on that bend so no drama captured. Gaps edited out between racers to make more watchable.  http://vimeo.com/nigelslee/stourport-360" rel="nofollow - https://vimeo.com/nigelslee/stourport-360

You can see I'm riding like someone who's just had an off!

Note for next time: Make sure the camera's in place before crashing.
