Hi there

Interesting to see squirrel chaser lobbying for a race in Cornwall.....Julie and I would certainly be keen.

However, there is no denying that we are a long way from most people so it might be a long shot.

After Bath fell through in spring 24 the nearest race to the SW was Shrewsbury (300 miles away).  We did Bath in 2023 and it was great with a good turnout and a couple of very challenging corners.  Maybe it will be back in the mix for `25?

Can i suggest as a possible Torbay? .....apparently Devon and Cornwalls only closed road cycle facility.  Its 1.5km long.....would it be suitable for velomobiles?  Maybe you have previously considered it and deemed it unsuitable?

Anyone can book an hour on it for £3.70 anytime.....we aim to go and try it out soon

The person to speak to at the leisure centre is mark.pearsall@lexleisure.org.uk

A tentative enquiry for a race meet was met enthusiastically.....£376 for 10-4 hire.....i have no idea how that compares.

Of course we would be happy to help organise it!!!!

I look forward to your thoughts.....could be a lovely weekend at the seaside with some racing thrown inWinkSmile

cheers

👍👍
The track looks good!
It is comparatively expensive (Hillingdon costs about half of that for all day) but there may be room for negotiation if we booked a weekend, and we’d probably need to really.
I’ll pass this on to Chris, our Competition Secretary - he books the tracks for us.
I don’t think he uses this forum very often.
I assume there are toilets etc?
Bath are a total pain in the arse to be honest.
Twice now they’ve double booked and cancelled our events, once at zero notice so some of us drove a long way for nothing.

Brilliant thanks Alan

facilities listed on the website

  • Seated picnic area to enjoy a rest.
  • Access to toilets and changing facilities available at the Leisure Centre.

I generally have no problem enjoying a rest.....so a seated picnic area is a bonusClapThumbs Up

The other thing that's helpful to know is if there's an electricity supply near the trackside.  We can run the timing system on battery power if necessary, but it's easier if we don't have to.

Team Bath Human Powered certainly hopes Odd Down will be back on the race calendar in 2025!

I sincerely hope not!!
We’ve given them too many chances already.
They won’t care about booking another event and blowing us out and it’s not fair to ask our members to drive down there again when we know there is a good chance it will be a wasted journey, or to book accommodation in the area only for the event to be moved (like last year).

Possibly, depending on cost, facilities and what the track is like.
This one is a purpose built cycle track, so should have no insurance issues.
We really need to hear the thoughts of our competition secretary as he books the tracks.
I have emailed him as I don’t think he uses this forum very often.
If we can pass all the info to him I’m sure he’ll do whatever he can - he will be putting the 2025 calendar together between now and Christmas
