Good afternoon. I am the Chair of a disability cycling group, BikeActive Norfolk. see BikeActiveNorfolk.org , to get an idea of what we do, which is organise ride sessions for anyone with a disability, illness or injury. We run separate adult and child groups
We use a plethora of specialist equipment to do this and raising funds to run the group is a constant issue
We are running a 24hr recumbent endurance race over the summer solstice 21st and 22nd of June 2025 from midday to midday on the multi use games area of our local park.(We thought we'd try something different from your usual sponsored ride! YAWN!) This is a lap of ONLY 160 metres,( so we are restricted to seven entries. We have use of up to seven recumbents to race. Three Redmount roller recumbents, one Hase Kettwiesel and a number of ICE recumbents from Kevin D at D Tek recumbents We had hoped teams would come and race us and had intended to charge £100 for a team of four or five, £75 for a solo. For this you got loan of a recumbent, transponder timing, some food and teas and coffees during the ride, use of a mechanic, trophies and a finishers medal. Sadly we have had no entries despite my pitching to the local police sports clubs, fire service, gyms, cycle clubs and cycle groups and all the people who crow about how good a cyclist they are!.
So , I am on here saying , "If anyone wants to make the long haul to Long Stratton, South Norfolk and race. We would charge teams £50 to cover venue hire and they can race their own vehicle of whatever sort , as long as the teams are confident they can race within the confines of a short tight track. If you want to race one of our recumbents , we'll still ask only £75"
There will be an open pavilion for people to crash between their rides stints, the area is floodlit and there is plenty of parking.
If anyone can help us raise some much needed funds we'd appreciate your entering. As this is our first go at running the event we will be a little, "Heath Robinson" in our approach. But I feel sure it will be fun and if it works we'll try it again in future years, so contact me if you'd like to join us
Some of you may know the area as the late Mike Burrows RIP would often cycle out this way on his Ratcatcher 9 from Rackheath. Lots of pleasant, low traffic lanes to ride if you want to extend your stay.
Hope we might get some takers
