(duplicate of post on the Facebook BHPC forum)

Hi all.

Can I get some indication of how many riders would be interested in a BHPC session on the indoor Derby Velodrome - it'd be 10-12am on either Sun 8th, 15th (Mother's Day) or 22nd March. The track is £303 per hour = £606 for two hours, so it'd be £30 each if we get 20 riders, or £20 each if we get 30 riders, and we'd be limited to 16 riders on track at once, so I'd suggest a max of 32 riders total. Let me know please, and if there's sufficient interest I'll get it booked asap.

It'll be me paying for this personally, so please only genuine interest!

Reply here if you're interested and I'll add you to the list on FB.

Russ

I never use FaceAche but am interested in either of the first two dates. It is unlikely that I will try to ride my Trykit around the banking…

Thanks Dave. I've got you on the 'yes' list already. There's not enough people said yes yet though - 15 so far, and we need 20 to make it work. Hopefully a few more will say yes over the next few days so that we can get it booked.

Derby velodrome is now fixed for Sunday 8th March, 10:00-12:00.

Sign-on is open now in the BHPC Shop ( https://shop.bhpc.org.uk/derby-velodrome-2026" rel="nofollow - shop.bhpc.org.uk/derby-velodrome-2026 ) - £30 for members (2025 or 2026*) and £40 for non-members

If you are joining BHPC to get the member rate then you will need to do it in two separate orders:
  1. buy membership
  2. buy sign-on
The shop doesn't know you are a member until the first order completes, so if you put membership and sign-on on the same order you won't get the member discount.

(*) 2026 membership isn't available to buy until 1st January 2026

Unfortunately I'll be unable to race on the day, although there's a chance I can pop along and watch - have fun and don't fall over LOL, if you do then do it with style as demonstrated by Ian Squires!

SIGN-ON EXTENDED

We're pleased to say that registration for Derby has now been extended until Thursday 5th March.

Sign-on originally closed on 5th February to give us time to cancel the event if numbers weren't sufficient to cover costs. By 5th February we did have enough to make sure the event goes ahead so registration has been reopened for any latecomers, up to a maximum of 32 riders (set by the Derby coaching team).

If there is anyone going to Derby who would be able to take the timing tent to the first race at Hillingdon (11th April) then please let me know - a reply here will do.

The tent has been over-wintering in my spare room, however I won't be going to Hillingdon so can't take it there. I shall, however, be at Derby so could hand it over if there is anyone with space who will be going to Hillingdon.

Many thanks - Andrew

The Young Lady is unlikely to attend but her spot will be paid for either way.

I am probably able to take the tent back down south.

Hi Dave - Dan Bergonzi has now offered via Facebook so I'll probably be giving him the tent at Derby. Should that fail, for whatever reason, I shall take you up on your offer - many thanks.

Photos, which are rubbish due to a combination of:
a) Low light
2) RFID aerials strategically gaffer-taped to the rail
iii) No IR beam-break trigger due to me failing to bring some sort of retroreflector to sellotape to the glass on the infield
four) The back of Andrew's head

Results, which are themselves a bit rubbish due to:
1) Poor RFID performance due to one-sided operation
b) The rubbishness, and frequent absence, of video capture to fill in the gaps in the RFID data
iii) Nigel and Jochen looking surprisingly similar in heavily motion-blurred greyscale

No points, because what happens on the velodrome stays on the velodrome.

All good fun.  Hopefully we can do this again sometime soon, and I'll try to bring a better engine.  I was extremely impressed by the performance of the Nosto under indoor conditions.

Thanks for that, it was a fun morning out (or more accurately, in).

Thanks for sorting out the timings. Amazed at your recognition skills identifying riders from those photographs...

Dave Minter - I made an onboard video edit and posted on instagram and you feature a couple of times Wink

If you don't have access let me know and I'll find a way to share with you. Good racing with you again.

It's a bit easier when you have a few seconds of video; it's still a bicycle-shaped blur, but you have more opportunity to pick out a distinctive frame feature or item of clothing, or indeed recognise people by the way they move (or indeed speed).  On a really good day, you can read people's race numbers Smile

I couldn't do my usual trick of sorting out the finish photos first so I have a convenient reference for what everyone looks like, since the riders are mostly behind the aerial as they cross the line.  On the other hand, with such a small field, it was relatively straightforward to do process of elimination from the RIFD data:  "Here's a cluster of three riders, Dave's on the track bike, and Gerry's half a second behind him.  Jochen passed 6 seconds ago, so the lowracer-shaped blur in the middle must be Nigel"

I have a few photos of your good self that I would be happy to share before I start the cull on my phone.
I have put a lot on the 'walled garden' but have no idea how to share in the BHPC environment .... unless the administrators wish to enlighten me.
However, Dave, if you send me your email address I can forward them.
Twed is at ... dtweddle@hotmail.co.uk

In principle you can attach photos to forum posts with the little tree icon in the toolbar of the reply window. In practice it is clunky, non-intuitive and severely limited in file-size. For person-person transfer email is a much better option.

I've done a re-edit of Russell's video with some added trackside footage. This gives an idea of what it was like watching the streamliners from the spectator viewpoint. I wasn't fully concentrating on filming the race until the last 5 minutes when I went and stood on the inside of the first corner (the video screenshot is from that postion). Quite something to watch them wizzing past every 15 seconds!
