I know I'm going to regret asking this but...
 
what is the method behind the points classifications?  I (think I) can see you start with 2000 at the top of each class and then each subsequent group of placings receives points reduced by 79, 51, 31, 19 etc.    Just wondered why?
 
might help newbies like me if the points system was explained somewhere on the website (if it already is, I couldn't find it)

There was much discussion a while back about revising the points system, so if you're having trouble sleeping tonight equip yourself with a nice cup of cocoa and take a look on the "Racing" section at the thread labelled "Race points system". You may not discover the how or why, but you'll find it a great cure for insomnia!
