Last year we used a one race per day per competitor for all the events with the exception of Newport. The Race Day software and all the HTML production, etc will more or less cope with the 1 race per day, and will at least cope with it by next year. the question is do we want to be able to repeat the Newport format (i.e. summing of two races (at the points level I think) as this will require a lot more software to be written? If this is going to be the case are there any other race combinations that should be considered? Alternatively - are people bothered if there is only 1 race per event? (with possible fun races or Time Trials on top of this).

Given the discussions that have been had here to do with increasing the amount of racing time, coupled with the apparent dislike of many people for long races, I would say that yes, we do need to be able to run more than one race for points on a given day.
I'm not saying that the software necessarily has to deal with that, though. Depending on how much work it would be to extend the capabilities of the software, it may be acceptable instead to treat them as two completely separate races and to average out the points afterwards, as has been done in the past (not that I know how much work that entails, either...).

It is this manually fiddling things around afterwards that causes the problem which is why I am talking about this now. I guess (and I am making this up -Dave to confirm) that it took Dave a couple of hours to fiddle with the results and make up the spreadsheet to cope with this exception. If this is required why don't we build it in. i just want to be sure before doing it.

Just a thought...
Why do we need to combine them at all?
If we are going to run two races at each event why not call them Newport 1 and Newport 2 for example and treat them as two races, each with it's own set of points.
Would there be any practical problem with having 24 race results instead of 12 in the year?
Also if the two race results aren't combined then a visit from the puncture fairy in race 1 wouldn't affect the result of race 2...

Combineing the races with the two sets of points. might encourage people to stay longer at the races.
Previously people have gone home straight after thier race. because there is not point for staying.
i am all for having two points races but combine and average the points out rather than having them seperate as it would complicate the table wiht taking the worst 4 off

I stayed at lincoln until almost everyone had gone and I had to be dragged away by my dad. I really like just looking at all the bikes and chatting to their owners, I could do that for days.

So if we employ Lee to keep everyone there by talking to them we should be fine then

That's fine so long as the 'worst N' rule is adapted to fit, otherwise
missing one event means missing two races. Perhaps it's as simple (ha!
says Kevin?) as discounting N events rather than N races.

That's a good point. As Andrew points out the "worst N" rule would have to be adapted (the obvious would be to count the best 16 from 24). Any race days that featured only one race ought then to count as two races for that rule, with double points for the one race ... therefore at one stroke also (maybe) satisfying those who've wanted Castle Combe to count double!

After we did this at Darley Moor a couple of years ago, I did create a modifed version of the spreadsheet for this eventuality, but IIRC the HTML version was largely hand-crufted, with additional swearing.
