I don't think we are saying that we will do this format at every race, which makes it difficult to say that it is two spearate point scoring events, as it will then put a very high weighting on that event where two races are run. If it is required, then I will adjust the tooling to cope with it. Exceptions will always hit at some point (as Dave said above, he had the sheet for one part of it but the HTML production was something else). So to get the requirements sorted out we are saying that multiple races will be an option. Two sets of races will be run, the points will be calculated by averaging the points awarded over each set of races separately. (i.e. the morning races are calculated and allocated points, the same is done in the afternoon, then the two are averaged. So Ian Chattington racing in the morning would get 2000 points for that, if he raced in the afternoon he would get 2000 pints for that, therefore would end up with 2000 points (the average of the two). If he was visited by the p*ncture fairy in the afternoon, and received 0 points for that he would end up with just 1000 points. Is that what we are saying?

In response to Kevin's most recent post, that summary of the requirements is just what I would previously have said, except that I'm taken with Alan's suggestion, in particular the way that it helps mitigate the effects of visits from the p+nct+re fairy. It also means that if, for some reason, someone can't run in both races of a two-race day, it's still worth turning up for one.
Alan's suggestion wouldn't give extra weighting to two-race meetings if one-race meetings were to count double (in weighting terms it's the same as each race of two counting half). So an alternative requirement to averaging points over two races is to enable a single race to count double, in terms of both points and in terms of the "best X from Y" rule. Though I admit that thinking about the latter makes my brain hurt a little.

Going over it again (slowly for my own sanity)
For Multiple Race Days, if we award full points (2000 for 1st etc) then take averages of the race results (divide by n races) OR if we award fractional points (2000/n for 1st) - it makes no difference. OK
For Multiple Race Days, if we award full points per race then that seams unfair on those who cannot attend that day and changing the "worst x" adjuster won't help matters here. E.g. if 3 races were riden at Newport I'd use up three DNFs if I missed that day.
For Multiple Race Days, if we award fractional points per race then the "worst x" adjuster can still work if we make it subtract on the basis of x events, not n races.
Hope this helps

Oh god this isn't or shouldn't be that complicated. From what I can see running each race seperately and doubling the points for the others does not alter anything.
So are we saying that we woudn't do it the way of Newport but would count each of the races as half points (there isn' t much difference really), how do we cope with the (12-4) count, etc. i,e best 8 races (do the multiple races count as a half - it all seems too difficult.
Why not just stick to that of Newport format. Yes people might not be able to get to 1 race, but that is no different to the current format - if you miss your race that is it!

..... as far as I understand it, World superbike (stick bikes with motors) has two races per event. Both races stand for championship points in there own right. That way, if the crash fairies get you,you at least get a chance at the next race. They also have a 1 make tyre rule as well, so its not all good.....
Speaking as one who is plagued by the crash / puncture fairies now and then (see Nikkis lean angle thread) I would relish the chance of at least half the available points in the second race, rather than watch from the side and return home dejected and pointless after an early puncture as at Darley Moore.
I also however favour the hour +1 format, so 2 races at this length would be heaven and probably put a stop to me being given any race organisation duties ever again. Is there a 'least popular bloke' award yet ?

A deep and profound apology to you for my decking it entirerely unaided and causing you to fall the other week. With a photographer present as well. Sorry! Most of the rest of the day was lost in an adrenalin and endomorphin blur I think. Were you coming round to lap me at the time? I see you finished a lap up anyway. chapeau!

I claim priority for the 2hr at Castle Combe!
Interesting looking at the Newport format but using a field of 21 for easy numbers If you win one but miss the other due to being set upon by groupies you will by our current scheme of things come away with 1000 points and last place overall. If you win one and are beset with the p*~#ture fairy and finish last in the second you will get 1000 + 550 = 1550 points which would place you about 8th overall. It seems OK to me - obviously missing half of one day's racing penalises you pretty heavily but so would missing half of a race! I would say that it is unnecessary to balance the scoring in favour of those who can't make the whole day - if you can't make an event you have the option to drop it. For a weekend event the situation is a bit different though I would still be against favouring those who can't attend the whole event. Possibly a bonus for those who do attend the whole event?

World (and British) Superbikes are very good examples of how that works very well...
Perhaps we could come up with a version of "Superpole" from those events as an alternative fun race as well...
