I have the opportunity to buy a Cruzbike but logistically cannot do it in person - looks good in photos. The other chappie is also active on another place (not here I think), but I have never met him.
Any ideas on a mutually risk free methodology of transacting?

Oddly I might suggest EBay, which protects the purchaser usually more than the seller, but at least has a conflict resolution process (hollow laughter). There are ways as long as he knows your username and what you want to pay, he can reject anyone else making an offer.
Or a solicitor. Or he sells it to a LBS and then you purchase it from them.
