Again. we do not have a volunteer as organisator for this even yet.  If you haven't taken your turn yet this season, please post here, or PM me.

This is the fastest track we use, and therefore the best for record attempts.  If anyone has it in mind to attempt such as a hour record, please let me know, and we'll take a look at working something into the programme.

I offered to help out, that offer still stands.

Err where do we find out what records there are to be broken?

Thanks, Ian, I had a note of your offer.  I's sure that whoever (eventually) volunteers as Head Organisator will find your help very welcome.

Good point.  Thee Keeper of Thee Records in this respect is Richard Ballantine.  It would be good to get the records up on the main site somewhere, but I don't think they are there currently.  To the best of my knowledge, the following are WHPVA-recognised British hour records.

Open: 50.105 miles - Rob English, Nissan Test Track, Arizona 2007
(best on British soil: 46.96 miles - Pat Kinch 1990)
Women: 32.52 miles - Claire King, Reading 2003
Unfaired: Mike Burrows set a record at Scunthorpe in 2009, somewhere a bit short of 29 miles

I'd be interested in setting a British faired trike record if there isn't one - that's easy Wink, breaking them is the hard part! Dead!!!! I suspect that a faired Speedy or something else ultra smooth with a leviathon on board has already set something that an old fart like me can't even hope to come close to...

Mind you if i did have a go it would be touch and go as to whether a certain other BHPC member gets his new toy up and running - alas i can say no more until said person wheels the beast out!

Bump!

We still have no lead organisator for this event - though Ian has offered his assistance to whoever takes the lead role.  Please post/PM if you might be the tiniest bit willing to take it on.

Also, if any of our qualified first-aiders will be there, please would they let me know?

I don't know if I'm up for the role of lead organiser but I'm certainly willing to be an assistant like Ian, I'll be based in Hull that very weekend tending to an array of small tropical fish, as you do.

I can be at Quibell Park pretty early on as well if need be. As long as it isn't something like 7.30am anyway!

Regarding the actual events we run, I was pondering perhaps a fastest flying lap plus standard race. Fastest flying lap could work well in conjunction with the timing gear (provided the Preston based electronic saboteurs have been exterminated). We could start people a couple of metres after the timing line, they have almost a whole lap to build up to full speed, pass the timing line, complete a flying lap, cross the timing line without exploding and pull in before crossing the timing line again.

Finally, could anybody possibly bring a spare 406 wheel with a 100mm hub for a small experiment, tisn't a problem if it's disc or rim braking, if it even happened to be a faired wheel then yet more liquid refreshment will be provided.

Ok, but it'd be a considerably sub-maximum top speed for a streamliner if you run it like that.  I understand that most of the field can easily reach max speed in a one lap wind-up.

Very true, I think Quibell Park is somewhere around 450 - 500m so too short for likes of you and Slash to approach the usual warp speed I've seen so far. Is it something you'd be for or against?

A split of something like 25% for the Flying Lap and 75% for the usual race (45mins + 1 lap?) would still provide plenty of scope for excessively high jealousy inducing speeds and points.
