For what it's worth, the extra classes were put in to see whether they encourage people to come and play. This year alone is not going to be a good test, the weather having been less clement than others.
The Unfaired class wasn't set up for low-racers, it was/is for people who have just got a nice bike but don't wish to, can't afford to, haven't yet got round to, or didn't know you could fit fairings.
I would say that Paul's Bachetta is not in the spirit of the Sports class - not with those wheels! However that is a decision for the others in Sports class

the only exceptions being a Bachetta (don't understand why this isn't in the Sports Class) and Nick's Fujin, which isn't really a low racer, more a lowish sports bike. |
...and a Cobra, for a couple of races anyway . I'd say Paul's Bachetta should be Sports so, unless I hear howls of dissent (not listening, not listening), I shall make it so in Results v5.7, Platinum Edition. [PS: Martin: Thanks for official confirmation of Geoff's times for Shrewsbury 2.]

Andrew,
You may not have read, but I posted some months ago to say that I would happily volunteer myself out of the Sports class and I still stand by this now. (Pretty much for the reason gNick says).
So yes, please take that as a (courteous) howl of dissent!

This is where I have a problem with all these classes (and I have no right to comment on the class structure itself doing a mximum of 2 BHPC races a year).
But if you set to and build a machine to fit in a set of clearly defined rules, it is crazy to then give the others in the class the right to veto you because you might happen to be very good or because you've thought of something else.
Obviously this might lead to 1 machine or type of machine wiping the board for a season but then the others will catch on to what you've done different and do it as well if they want to compete with you.

Racing is life...
Anything which happens before or afterwards is just standing around waiting to race....

Results v5.7a are now available for perusal and further curmudgeoning in the traditional interwebby format:

Above tables now updated with: - Paul Collender added to Sports Class
- Andy Forey moved from Faired to Unfaired
- Barney Harle moved from Part-Faired to Unfaired
[Sorry, Paul: didn't read your resignation from Sports until too late. I'll fix it before it gets onto the website.]

Yeah but...
The veto bit only applies to the Sports class which was set up with the express wish of giving people with a non-competitive (against the low-racers) road machine some even competition. So though your Kingcycle, Ross, Ratcatcher, might not be competitive in the general sense, they still have a reason to come and race.
The general form of the class is such that rather than having absolute rules such as eye-height (which could and did result in a tall person on a low bike winning) the class would be based on a spirit of things approach which was based on general consent of the class.
So PaulC's Bachetta with its low seat angle and carbon wheels isn't really playing to the spirit of the class since it is patently setup for racing.
Remember that the fundamental machine classes are Faired, Partially Faired and Unfaired , all others are sub or niche classes for a specific type of machine.

Thank you for the great weekend.
Shrewsbury circuit was OK, nice circuit and sport center good but the hairpin turn was so tight I could only go around it at about 14Mph max and by the time I had re-accelerated to normal speed, I had to brake for the thing again.
Wolverhampton was much better and was a very enjoyable race.
Camp site was OK, better than some I have stayed at.
Special thanks to Paul C for keeping me company on the sat evening and riding to campsite with me and then coming to Wolverhampton with me. Our different speed profiles made riding together awkward though (I was slower uphill and faster down). TomTom was great, I want one for the Quest now.
Also special thanks to fards for getting me out of wolves.

No worries, did you get to Kettering okay that evening? I was tired by the time I got home,9I was tired when I set out though) something to do with going the wrong road on autopilot back to Cannock and several miles out of my way..

I was running late so stopped at a diffrent campsite site about 10 miles west of Kettering. Was a very nice site too next to a lake.
