Hi all,

In usual last minute fashion, I am looking at travel options for getting to Worlds/Belgium. As I don't have a car, is there anyone driving who might have a space for me (and dissasembled Bacchetta). Comfort not important. Will pay for share of travel cost.

Alternatively, if anyone is going by alternative method, train etc, I'd be interested to team up.

Thanks, Paul
So does this mean that pre-entry is not required? Just turn up and sign on Friday, race Saturday and Sunday?

Fine if so, although I had the impression that registration would be via the  website... but the address http://www.hpv.be/wk/starten.htm no longer leads anywhere Stern Smile
Nick,
i am afraid that pre-entry is required and the closing of the entries will be on 15th of july. We just got a mail from the organisers. I do not know for certain that they accept payment on arrival. I know that we do this at Cycle Vision for non-euro countries, but you could make sure of course.
More info could be found via www.ligfiets.net
The information is in Dutch for the time being, but certainly our team of very reliable translators will work on it soon.
If you do not want to visit ligfiets.net and would like to jump to the registration directly that is also possible.
Greetings,
Jack

Thanks, Jack.

As it happens, I registered yesterday; there was no facility to pay via the website (using Paypal, for example), so I'm trusting that I'll be able to hand over cash on arrival.

Also, I have no need of accomodation (having booked a hotel long ago), and the only fee that is mentioned (60 Euros) includes it, so I'm assuming that there will be a reduction when I do pay.

What I would like to know is whether my partner Judith will be allowed to compete on her Airnimal folder (we're pretty sure it's not UCI compliant!). I've sent an e-mail, so I just hope we have a reply before 15/7...

If we can't race, it looks as though we'll be touring Belgium instead Confused

I am almost certain that there is no reduction. I think in this case the rent of the track is combined with the possibility to use the track grounds also for camping. So it is impossible to calculate discounts and costs for both facilities.

It is a hpv championship, so it does not matter what bike or other transportation (rowing bike, tandem, etcetera) is used as long as it is human power. The races are combined with handbikes. I do not understand why there are races with handbikes only, it is possible for handbikes to race in regular races (cycle vision and other championships). But i do not do have anything
to do with the organisation, so it is not really a worry.

Your girl friend could race, it would be very welcome i think. Organisers are always very happy that women also compete!!

Greetings,
Jack

Handcycles are now UCI regulated, maybe they decided that HCs are not part of the party anymore..

In a slightly more serious vein I think it's because it's also a round of the HC European Series, and that they'd rather stick to the format of the races they already use.

I'd like to send my best wishes to those departing for Belgium to represent club and country over the weekend.  I hope Sunday isn't as wet as the forecast is predicting.

There's a lesson to be learnt for 2008 from the reason that I and several other Brits won't be there, which is that information about the event was not available early enough, easily enough, with sufficient detail and clarity for us to be confident when, where, how (and even if) it was going to happen and be worth going to.  As a result, Claire and I decided to deploy our precious time off work on different CHEESE.

Now, I know that the club is only its members, and events only happen if we (not "they") organise them, so I shouldn't whinge.  But as things stand, I don't even know enough about the 2008 worlds to know if I'm in a position to offer help.

Adrian,

some true things said here. Everybody is waiting for a date for these sort of events. That is most important. When other local races are planned there will be less people there. In germany there is the Recumbent Cup which is popular.
And of course these dates must be approved at work, so most people want to know them by December.
This year i realise, we were also slow with the date for Cycle Vision. There were certainly less competitors this year. I do not know what part has the problem of the date as a result. Perhaps it follows a tendency for less people competing?

It is quite an organisation for the people in Belgium. I am very impressed that they got this event going. The group of active people is very small i believe and there is lots of things to do (that is one thing that i am very certain of!).

I will go to Belgium, but i think on saturdaymorning. For us it is just a few hours drive.

Greetings,
Jack

Hello Recumbent enthousiasts,

we did have a wounderful weekend after all. Good races and the weather was not that bad.
A link with http://www.ligfiets.net/nieuws/bericht.php3?id=2273&volledig=1 photos, results and some stories can be found. No report from me as yet. But i will write something about a bike that gets stolen during a race, retrieved etcetera (did anybody see a Black Pfanzer going??). Lots of ups and downs very interesting i think.

Greetings,
Jack
