Depends very much on turnout, Alan. If there are fewer than 25 people, a whole-field endurance race will be practical and in my opinion preferable to two sparsely-populated races. If that is what we do, I will be doing all the lap counting (assisted by a spotter or two), in which case there will need to be a Le Mans start to keep the whole field from crossing the line at the end of Lap 1 en masse.

Oooh, I'm going all French. Pass me beret Smile

I'd be more concerned about the whole field going into the hairpin en masse and coming out one at a time covered in blood.... Big smile

Thanks Nick - Better put the SPDs in then - no chance of running in Looks!!

Better re-think my drinking arrangements too - In fact I think I'd better put another bike in... Big smile

Please could whoever has the laptop print off some signon sheets and bring them to Shrewsbury? I was going to do it but forgot and now I'm in transit without access to the necessary facilities.

Does anybody happen to have a spare rear 26" wheel with disc hub they could bring along to the race for me to use (if I haven't got mine back in time)?
I'll handsomely reward with the finest beer!

I'll be fitting my own disc rotor and cassette, along with tyre, etc. So all I'd need is a bare wheel.

I'll update tomorrow evening to confirm if I definitely need one or not.

Paul,
I will have a spare 26" rear wheel with me in any case, so if you still need one tomorow for the race you can use it.

I'm still up for doing 1st aid, but am planning on racing in the quest so if we are doing a longer race, someone will need to shout me to deal with any issues.
Longer race suits me, but I am riding 70 mile round trip to get there, so the more relaxed speed of a longer race appeals!

Hi John, I've managed to pick up a spare 26" wheel (complete with fetching pink hub and white rim) so I should be ok. Thanks for being a potential saviour!

As for race format, I'd be more than happy with a longer race. I guess we'll see based on numbers anyhow.

Regarding the Le Mans start, please bear in mind we will have at least one handcyclist taking part tomorrow...
Do we know how long the long race is likely to be??

Race format, arrived at after consultation with the Competition Secretary and consideration of safety issues and what people seem to prefer, with a small dash of EVIL on my part (mwahahahahah):

there will be a 10-minutes-plus-1-lap circuit race, for 30% of the available points

followed by a 1-hour-plus-1-lap circuit race, for 70% of the available points

Fast-twitch and slow-twitch types should both have an event which appeals. We do lots of time trials, so a 10-minute thrash will make a nice change, won't it?

There will be no more than 15 riders on the circuit at one time (so there will be "fast" and "slow" races if there are more than 15 riders present, and "fast", "middling" and "slow" races if more than 30 riders present - in which case the endurance race will need to be of somewhat lesser duration).

If a Le Mans start is used, handcyclists will have the advantage of starting already mounted (but I am inclined towards a "normal" start for the shorter race anyway).

Le Mans style cannot work for Streamliner bikes, and will also handicap anyone trying to tape the streamliner up. I will be very annoyed if I have to handicap my start as I get Sarah started .....especially in a race as short as 10 mins......please be practical!
Besides ....running in cleats on a potentially wet track will probably keep Fards busy later in the day.
Never believe an atom they make up everything.
