Thanks all, great to see everyone today. That's the fastest fast race I think I've seen so far - third from last even with a 25.1mph average for an hour
I was overheating and under-hydrated, but Jochen, David and Andrew were a class apart today... Russ |

Or possibly a class together, given how the gap between them was too small for the tag reader to correctly determine the finish order. (They were obviously taking inspiration from the close finish in the slow race...)
It was a pretty fast turnout generally. When allocating the races I basically put the obviously fast people in one group, the obviously slow people in the other and the middle half of the field were allocated almost at random. It could easily have been the fully-faired race and the part-faired/unfaired race. The Preston track really is lovely when there's no slime on the corners...

Other anomalies I've seen, Neil Hood hasn't got any points for MF, Sonja has points down for MF when she rode a bike and James Coxon/James Coxton are the same person.

Many thanks to Kim and Andrew for all their organisating and timing efforts! Really enjoyed the weekend and if anyone knows whether Don in the Quattrovelo pipped me on the line in the slow race yesterday, please let me know. I was trying to unlap myself but it was so close on the line I have no idea whether it worked or not. Nice to be able to sprint(?) for the line though. Many thanks also to Ian for allowing me to use his Wasp in that race while my Ross was U/S.

Good, thanks for that. The James Coxton/Coxon change is because he came and told me I'd spelled his name wrong and I fixed it in the later results. Presumably I transcribed it incorrectly at some point and when faced with two spellings assumed the one with fewer characters was likely to be a typo. SeriesMgr has a helpful feature for aliasing different spellings of people's names in anticipation of this sort of thing, so that should be fixable without having to go and mess with the Hillingdon data. Neil and Sonja's classes are as they were entered in the shop, so nothing mysterious there. Neil mentioned his Mf was missing yesterday, but with all that was going on I didn't spot the Sonja bike discrepancy. I note that several people didn't select answers to all the class questions, which I picked up while processing the sign-on. Keep them coming...

Right, fixed the bug in the merging software (amusingly, it was effectively thinking Slash had tied with himself, because a DNF rider in a previously-processed class had the same finish time).
Sorted out James Coxon's name, and updated Neil and Sonja's classes. You might need to reload the page to see the changes.

To follow up on this, it worked astoundingly well. The software worked as intended, and we somehow managed to get everyone into a queue without any of the anticipated cat-herding problems. The only real issue seemed to be someone going on bips of the DNS rider in front of them, which was easily fixed in the results. (Important to note that setting a rider to DNS doesn't in itself change anyone else's start time, which is probably the correct approach if we're telling people their start time in advance.) Thanks again to yostumpy for providing a reliable wireless router (which made this practical), and to everyone who managed to be in the right place at the right time. Next time we can use a shorter interval between riders (I chose a fairly conservative 45 seconds to give us plenty of time in case of unforeseen issues), which means we can get through a time trial much more quickly and efficiently than before. ![]() It also opens up the possibility of doing multi-lap time trials, which would be impractical to time manually without a lot of human attention. And in principle we could do flying starts, though this depends on everyone congregating outside RFID range until after their turn, which might be possible at somewhere like Darley Moor, but not the likes of Hillingdon or Stourport.
